This statistic depicts the age distribution in the United States from 2011 to 2021. In 2021, about 18.24 percent of the U.S. population fell into the 0-14 year category, 65.08 percent into the 15-64 age group and 16.68 percent of the population were over 65 years of age.

The 2021 Census counted 25,422,788 people in Australia (excludes overseas visitors), an increase of 8.6 per cent since the 2016 Census. 49.3 per cent of the population were male with a median age of 37 years old. 50.7 per cent of the population were female with the median age of 39 years old.
PEOPLE AGED 65 YEARS AND OVER
Over the 20 years between 1999 and 2019, the proportion of the population aged 65 years and over increased from 12.3% to 15.9%. This group is projected to increase more rapidly over the next decade, as further cohorts of baby boomers (those born between the years 1946 and 1964) turn 65.
However, with many people working later in life, in Australia the definition has changed to indicate someone around the age of 75 – 80. The World Health Organisation suggests that most developed world countries characterise old age starting at 60 years and above.
In June, incidence increased in all age groups, with the most rapid rate of increase and highest overall incidence among young adults aged 18–24 years; the rate in this group continues to be the highest among all age groups. Incidence steadily increased among children and adolescents (aged 0–17 years).

The age structure of a population refers to the proportionate numbers of people in different age categories in a given population for a defined time. It is a natural characteristic of a population in a country or a region. The age structure is closely related to the birth rate, death rate and migration of a population.

People from 65 to 74 years old are usually considered early elderly, while those over 75 years old are referred to as late elderly. The word elderly has been used for hundreds of years, originating from the noun elder, which was considered a respected title.
From the mid-1970s until 2018 there was a steady and ongoing increase in the median age of men and women at first marriage. This upward trend halted between 2018 and 2020 but continued again in 2021. In 2021 the median age of men was 30.8 years, and women 29.4 years.
