A navel piercing has one of the longest healing times – as much as 12 months – because of its position on your body. However, the jewellery can usually be changed to a slightly shorter sterile piece from 6–8 weeks.
Estimated Piercing Healing Times
“The same goes for facial piercings, with some exceptions,” he says, “Septum piercings are the quickest to heal at around eight to ten weeks. Most lip piercings heal in around three months, and nostrils (cartilage) take roughly six months.”
Ear Cartilage including Tragus, Anti-tragus, Upper and Lower Conch, Helix, Snug, Daith, Industrial, Rook etc – 3 to 6 Months but can take much longer.
Oral Piercings – Especially the Tongue & Webbing!
The tongue takes from 3 to 4 weeks to heal, the lip 2 to 3 months and the tongue webbing 8-10 weeks. Oral piercings from the tongue, the webbing underneath the tongue and behind the lips, and even the lips themselves are some of the fastest healing parts of our bodies!
Helix piercings are generally considered the least painful among the different types of cartilage piercings available. However, like any cartilage placement, helix piercings take considerably longer to heal than lobe piercings. The initial healing stage for a helix piercing will last for around 3-4 months.
The daith is located in the inner ear, so this piercing is not only painful to sit through but also tricky to heal. The cartilage is quite dense to go through and there's a distinct pressure that comes along with this piercing.
It can take anything form a few weeks to a year to fully heal from general piercings. Large gauge piercings (i.e. those where piercings have been stretched) require surgical closure.
Uncommon piercings may be more costly due to the fragile nature of the procedures. A few more uncommon piercings are eyeball piercings, dermal piercings (pictured to the left), corset piercings, some genital piercings, uvula piercings, bridge piercings, and anti-eyebrow piercings (the latter two are pictured above).
Daith piercing might treat anxiety
Because anxiety disrupts homeostasis, the piercing's mechanism in maintaining homeostasis is believed to alleviate anxiety. Many people claim to be skilled piercers, but some acupuncturists are skeptical of unskilled piercers doing Daith piercing.
What piercings reject the most? Surface piercings have the highest rejection rate. Surface piercings such as microdermals as well as eyebrow piercings and navel piercings reject the most because they are closest to the surface of the skin.
"A piercing becoming permanent, where jewelry can be removed for hours or days, is never guaranteed." And that means there's always a chance that your piercing can close when you remove jewelry for an extended period of time.
Surface piercings are the most common types of piercing to be rejected by the body. Surface piercings travel along an area of skin, rather than going directly through a body part. The jewelry punctures only a small amount of the skin's surface. Examples of surface piercings include eyebrows, neck, hip, and wrist.
An infected ear piercing can also develop years after a person got the original piercing. Usually, the infections are minor, and people can treat them at home without complications. Touching the piercing too often with dirty hands or not cleaning the area can lead to infections.
Pierced areas, especially sensitive areas like the navel, can get infected months and even years after they were pierced, though infections most often occur very shortly after the time of piercing, as that is when the portal door is wide open.
If you get an infection, your healing will slow down. If your jewellery is too tight, your piercing cannot breathe effectively. If you pierced with a gun and your body is not as good as some of us in healing, likely that they will not ever heal at all. This is true especially in cartilage piercings.
The snug piercing is known to be the most painful ear piercing for the majority of people to receive. On the pain scale, it ranks at around a 9/10 compared to other piercings. However, keep in mind that even the most painful piercings will likely hurt less than getting a paper cut.
Of all the body sites commonly pierced, the navel is the most likely to become infected because of its shape. Infections can often be treated with good skin hygiene and antibiotic medications.
Rhino and Nasallang Piercings
These are definitely up there with the rarest and most unusual piercings! We must note that these piercings are rare for a reason. They are not something we would generally offer to the general public, simply because they are quite extreme and carry a certain amount of risk.
Oral piercings tend to have a lower infection rate but when present are treatable with amoxicillin/clavulanate.
