My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word (Psalm 119:28 NIV). He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3 NIV). “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4 NIV).
Holy Spirit, we ask You to replace sadness with joy, defeat with victory, and weariness with praise. Help those who feel defeated, weary or sad to focus on Your blessings in their lives rather than on their circumstances.
Jesus, You experienced deep sorrow and grief. Thank You for understanding what I am going through. Encourage me Holy Spirit, that if Jesus made it through His suffering, then I am going to make it through with His power. Lord, help me to overcome these downcast feelings.
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
(Psalm 34:18) Nobody knows better how we feel than God. The Lord has a special calling for the brokenhearted, for us when we feel crushed in spirit.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed" (Psalm 34:18).
Isaiah 49:13 proclaims: “… the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.” Jesus promises in Matthew 5:4: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” When your heart is broken by sorrow, you can invite God's love into the cracks that have broken open – and you'll grow more ...
God is described in different ways, but during times of depression and sadness, He can be our comforter. In 2 Corinthians 1:3-5, the Bible says, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts our troubles so that we can comfort others.
Simple: Pray like a hurting child to a loving father. You don't need complex theological compositions. Scriptural: When you can't find any words of your own, use the words God has provided in the psalms, in the Lord's Prayer, or in Paul's prayers. Together: Ask someone to pray with you when you can't pray for yourself.
Psalm 34:18 tells us that “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” In Psalm 25:16-17, the writer gives us a prayer to God in a time of loneliness: “I am lonely and afflicted, relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.”
A Prayer for Depression
We come to You today Lord with hearts, minds, and spirits that may be struggling to their keep heads above water. We ask in Your Name that You give them a refuge, a glimmer of hope, and a life-saving Word of Truth.
Always remind me that You are always there beside me, God, wherever I am and whatever comes my way. Through it all, God, remind me to stay away from worry. Instead, help me to always look to You for comfort and peace, and to trust You whatever circumstances I have in life.
Findings show that praying, measured by frequency, is usually associated with lower levels of depression and anxiety.
Prayer for Emotional Strength
“God, help me to be strong in the face of this battle. I know you promise to provide armor for me and a place of safety. I ask you to use the battle I'm facing to draw me closer to you. Allow me to rest in knowing that though my strength fails, yours is ongoing.

Psalm 142:1-7 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
With my voice I cry out to the LORD; with my voice I plead for mercy to the LORD. I pour out my complaint before him; I tell my trouble before him. When my spirit faints within me, you know my way! In the path where I walk they have hidden a trap for me.
Prayer and spirituality can help ease depression and act as a cushion when life throws curve balls your way. Saying a small prayer to get through a difficult time is not unusual. A plea for help from a higher power is one way people seek and find the benefits of spirituality.
