A common response to mahalo is a'ole pilikia, which means “no problem”.
While it's not entirely customary to respond to being thanked, there are a few options for you to use. To say you're welcome you can use the phrase No'u ka Hau'oli, which means the pleasure is mine, or 'A 'ole pilikia which means no problem. You could even say hiki nō which just means “can do.”
If someone says “Aloha” to you, say it right back. Mahalo means “thank you.” If someone does you a kindness, don't be shy about saying, “Mahalo,” to them. Using "aloha" and "mahalo" is your way of communicating that respect and interest in their culture. I would say that if it is not natural for you, it might come off or out weird. That non-confidence might come off as disingenuous. If that's the case, just stick with thank you.
