The Shrouded Ghost is a type of Megalodon, an enemy that spawns at open sea near player ships. Their spawn chance is extremely rare compared to other Megalodons. They are visually distinguishable from other Megalodons by their pale, pearl-gray body, pale pink dorsal fin and bright peach-pink pupil-less eyes.
Any player in the world can add an effigy to the summoning table and, once all four have been added, there needs to be at least 5 pirates assembled to proceed. Once that number has been met, everyone has to play a special shanty "Summon the Megalodon" and the Shrouded Ghost will appear, starting the battle.

There's no way to summon it out from the seas — all you can do is sail around and hope that the surrounding waters turn dark, which indicates a Kraken is about to breach the surface. The Kraken is a random encounter that can happen at any time almost anywhere in the Sea of Thieves.
Depending on how many other pirates engage in the fight and how well everyone can land cannonball hits, killing the megalodon could take anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes. It's a long battle, which is why it's so important to be fully stocked up on resources.

If you have already killed the Shrouded Ghost, the figurehead is now available to equip from your Ship Customisation Chest. However, if you have yet to complete this impossible feat, you can look forward to unlocking the figurehead as soon as you kill one Shrouded Ghost.
The Megalodon can be found rather easily just by sailing around in open waters, it's considered a nuisance by many - be warned that they will despawn if you sail too closely to land masses. It's largely just random, but the Kraken does have a predictable window for spawning and the Megalodon is rather common.

The Megalodon also now rewards the player with loot upon killing it. The total value of the loot varies greatly, from around 1000 to 8000 gold coins.
5 types of Megalodons can be found in-game, though each individual of every species will possess a unique personality, much like real sharks. This makes every encounter, regardless of the color of the sea fiend, unlike any other.
For Megalodon to have existed 2.6 million years since the last known fossil tooth, there would need to be a sustainable population. Based on its size (you can see how this is done on my Kaiju post) we would expect global numbers, if we assume the largest Megalodon females get is 65.5 tons, of near ~700,000-1.5 million.

The cause of the Kraken's death is unknown, though it is suggested that Davy Jones, under orders of Lord Cutler Beckett, killed the monster or it may have been hunted down by a group of EITC soldiers.
The Kraken has a chance to spawn on a ship so long as it is in open water away from islands and there is no other active Kraken or World Event on the server, not including Fort of the Damned. Its spawning is indicated by a musical cue and the water around the ship turning black.
Thankfully, with the right resources and a steady shot, any pirate can successfully take down a kraken in Sea of Thieves.
