A trend that has recently taken the world by storm, ushers in a 'ring for singles' to announce and show off their singledom. As of Sunday evening, this fad (from a newly-announced social experiment) has grabbed attention. It aims to remove the need for all dating apps.
Enter the Pear ring: a small, turquoise band which is designed to show strangers that you're single. “If 1.2 billion singles around the world wore a little green ring on their finger to show they're single, we wouldn't need dating apps. IRL connection is the mission,” reads a statement on the Pear website.
According to legend (and some news reports) over the years, women buy them for themselves as personal declarations of independence and a celebration of single life. The right-hand ring is simply just a celebration of you. Also called "dress" or "cocktail" rings, the ring — and its symbolism — dates back to the 1920s.
