According to our study, real estate brokers have the largest gender pay gap, with men earning 60% more than their female counterparts. Coming in second place is personal finance advisors, where men earn 58% more than women in the same role.
The largest median hourly pay gaps are seen among banks. At 40.9%, Lloyds Bank's is the widest, down only 1.8 percentage points from 2017. Its parent company, Lloyds Banking Group, has the second-largest gap, with men paid 34.8% more on average.
In the UK, the sectors with the most women in employment are health and social work (accounting for 21% of all jobs held by women as of September 2022), the wholesale and retail trade (13%) and education (12%). In the health and social work sector, 77% of jobs are held by women, and in education it is 70%.
Across occupations, the median gender pay gap in favour of men in the UK is 14.9% in 2022, down slightly from 15.1% in 2021. The average median gender pay gap for full-time workers is 8.3%, up slightly from 7.7% in 2021.

Public sector versus private sector
The private sector has a significantly higher gender pay gap than the public sector. As of November 2022: the private sector gender pay gap is 16.1% the public sector gender pay gap is 11.2%

According to Namely's HR Careers Report, 71 percent of HR professionals are female. A general reason cited for more female representation in HR is that women are better in soft skills with a higher emotional intelligence compared to the male alternatives.
Women's median weekly earnings were highest for those between the ages of 35 to 44, with earnings of $978, and those ages 45 to 54, with earnings of $977. Women ages 55 to 64 had earnings that were slightly lower, at $955. For men, earnings were highest for 45- to 54-year-olds, with earnings of $1,260.
