Don't exfoliate 24 hours to 48 hours prior to waxing to avoid irritation. (Though we absolutely encourage you to exfoliate a few times weekly in between wax appointments to keep skin soft.) Don't coat your body with lotions, potions, creams or any of the sort the day of your wax.
Gently exfoliate your skin with a body scrub and mitt 48 hours before your appointment. This banishes any dead skin cells that are clogging your pores. Exfoliation also helps to loosen any trapped hairs that could otherwise remain stubbornly attached during your treatment.
No special shower is required; an ordinary shower will do. However, avoid taking a shower right before hair removal waxing. Take a shower a few hours or at least 30 minutes prior to your hair removal waxing appointment.
If you plan on taking a steam shower before-hand, however, wait at least 1-2 hours before you start waxing since the hot shower will open your pores and soften your skin, making it easier for your skin to get irritated or bruised.
NO hot shower or bath for at least 12 hours.
Directly after waxing your hair follicle is left open. This makes it susceptible hot water entering the open hair follicle during a shower or bath. This will irritate the area and create discomfort. Once your follicles close you can return to your normal bathing routine.
Pee Before Your Waxing Session Begins
Your esthetician will always want you to be comfortable and relaxed, especially during an intimate service. However, regarding Brazilian wax etiquette, it would be best practice to use the restroom before your appointment begins.
The short answer is yes. If you don't know exactly what a Brazilian wax entails, here's a quick overview: The wax technician waxes off everything, and we mean everything — from the front of your pubic area to the labia to your butt (between your butt cheeks, if we're being exact).
You should wear loose-fitting clothing so that you're comfortable and can avoid any irritation. Redness is also something you'll want to avoid and wearing loose clothing can help with that too. If it's your first time getting a bikini wax, don't worry!
It is best to take a lukewarm water shower before waxing and wait at least 15 minutes afterward because the skin of the affected areas, needs to cool down from the hot shower. This will help prevent too much heat from entering the open hair follicle and enhance your results.
Don't drink a lot of caffeine or alcohol. While having a couple glass of wine or beer before getting waxed sounds like a great idea, stimulants in the system can cause skin to be extra sensitive to waxing. Give yourself a couple of hours after drinking coffee or alcohol before getting waxed.
Seriously, there's no such thing as being too hairy.
“A lot of clients get embarrassed about their growth if it's been a while,” Cordova says. “I'd rather wax overgrown hair than a two-week-old shave. It's easier for the specialist and less painful for you.”
On average, every four weeks is recommended for body waxing. For the most effective facial waxing service, the ¼ inch rule does not apply. On average, every three weeks is recommended for facial waxing.
What are the most painful areas to have waxed? Brazilian, upper lip, chest (not areolas), the sides of your abdomen, hairline. That being said, your first time trying waxing as your hair removal method in almost any area is not going to be pleasant.
Hard waxes are the best way to ensure an even waxing without creating chances for new ingrown hairs. Overall, waxing has many advantages over shaving. The quality of the results becomes evident after the first try, with the skin looking a lot healthier after using professional waxes.
Unfortunately, no hot bath, hot shower or oral sex for 10 hours after a Brazilian. While your pores are open, they are vulnerable to irritation by the extreme temperatures and infection by bacteria.
ABrazilian wax is one of the more common areas where bleeding can occur since it's a more sensitive area of the body. Again - it is nothing to be alarmed by!
You may bleed a little.
This is more likely to happen in tight-pore areas, such as your underarms or around the labia if you're getting a Brazilian. You're also more likely to bleed if you're a waxing virgin.
Hair follicles remain open for hours after waxing, so it's best to avoid contact with any excess moisture for at least 24 hours. If you must bathe the same day as your wax, take a shower, not a bath. The bacteria, skin, and product in the water could cause infection.
WAXING! To keep your glow looking its best, be sure to wax first and tan later! When performed too quickly after tanning, waxing removes colour and can leave patchy areas of skin behind.
One of the biggest questions people tend to ask their estheticians after waxing is whether or not they can take a shower or bath after their service, and if not, how long they have to wait before they can do this. Generally speaking, it's not recommended to bathe for 24 hours after a waxing session.
But wait at least 24hrs after waxing before you take a bath. The heat will intensify any post-wax irritation and redness and will dry out your skin and open up your pores (leading to ingrown hairs).
Underarm Waxing Aftercare
