Some experts do recommend staying in bed anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour after intercourse to keep the sperm pooled at the top of the vagina. A woman can put her knees up to accentuate this position, or she can place her feet on the wall with her hips on a small pillow, which works even better.
Have sex regularly. The highest pregnancy rates occur in couples who have sex every day or every other day. Have sex near the time of ovulation. If having sex every day isn't possible — or enjoyable — have sex every 2 to 3 days a week starting soon after the end of your period.
Too much vigorous physical activity can inhibit ovulation and reduce production of the hormone progesterone. If you have a healthy weight and you're thinking of becoming pregnant soon, consider limiting vigorous physical activity to less than five hours a week.
It's recommended that you avoid strenuous physical activities like heavy weight-lifting or high-impact cardio during your two-week wait as it could lead to uterine contractions and affect the implantation process. After the first few days of our waiting period, you can do some light exercising like walking or swimming.
During the two-week wait, it's better to err on the side of caution. Avoid having a drink, smoking, or any other activity that could be harmful to a brand new pregnancy. It's fine to continue exercising if you already have a workout routine, but now might not be the time to take up a new, intense form of exercise.
Foods to avoid during implantation
Reduce intake of red meat – A high consumption of red meat can have a negative effect on implantation rates. Avoid alcohol – Alcohol can disrupt your hormone levels which can have a direct impact on implantation.
Blueberries and raspberries are loaded with natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients, which may help boost both female and male fertility. Like citrus, they're high in folate and vitamin C, which can help with fetal development down the road.
Infection of the fallopian tubes can lead to intense ovulation pain. Fibroids and ovarian cysts can cause mid-cycle aches. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, which usually occurs in people taking some types of fertility drugs, can cause severe pelvic pain.
Physical activity at a moderate level is safe and healthy and has not been shown to increase infertility. If you are having IVF treatment because you have problems with ovulation and you exercise at an intense or vigorous level your consultant may suggest cutting down to a moderate level instead during your treatment.
Think lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, good quality proteins, nuts and seeds, healthy fats and whole grains. The key here is blood sugar control to support implantation and early embryo development, so limit the junk and focus on real, nutrient-dense food.
What is the two-week wait? The two-week wait is the time period between ovulation and the point at which an at-home pregnancy test can detect pregnancy with the highest accuracy. You might see the two-week wait simply referred to as “TWW” in fertility forums or online communities.
Does holding up your legs and hips after sex increase the odds of getting pregnant? No, your position after sex doesn't matter either. There's no scientific evidence that elevating your hips or lying down after sex helps sperm reach the cervix (5).
When you know your average menstrual cycle length, you can work out when you ovulate. Ovulation happens about 14 days before your period starts. If your average menstrual cycle is 28 days, you ovulate around day 14, and your most fertile days are days 12, 13 and 14.
