11pm-1am is the time of the Gall Bladder and in order to wake feeling energized the body should be at rest. In Chinese medicine, this period of time is when yin energy fades ad yang energy begins to grow.
7–9pm: Pericardium Hand-Jueyin. 9–11pm: Triple Burner Hand-Shaoyang. 11pm–1am: Gallbladder Foot-Shaoyang. 1–3am: Liver Foot-Jueyin.
Let's take a look at the liver. According to the Organ Clock it is the most busy during 1-3am at night. (Assuming you go to bed around 10-11pm.)
Our circadian rhythm is our master 'internal clock' and ensures that all of our organs and internal biological systems work harmoniously together. It is during the period between 1 and 3 AM that the liver works it's hardest to cleanse and detoxify our body while we sleep.
Sleep detox is when your body naturally removes waste, toxins, and hormones from brain cells and organs during sleep. This process can leave you feeling rejuvenated in the morning. According to Chinese Medicine practices, the endocrine system detoxes between 9-11 p.m., making an early bedtime a great choice.
If you're waking up in the middle of the night after a cocktail or two, it's because your liver is working in overdrive to relieve your body of excess toxins. The liver cleanses our blood and when this process gets interrupted, it can result in low energy and feelings of angst the following day.
1-3am is the time of the Liver and a time when the body should be alseep. During this time, toxins are released from the body and fresh new blood is made. If you find yourself waking during this time, you could have too much yang energy or problems with your liver or detoxification pathways.
Waking up between 9pm and 11pm
As this is typically most people's bedtime, this would presumably occur shortly after falling asleep. If you find yourself affected, it could be a sign that you are stressed, worried, or anxious. As a result, your body has subconsciously entered flight or fight mode.
So if you wake up at 3 AM, when Liver energy peaks, you may be suffering from Liver Qi stagnation, which could be related to an unhealthy diet, excess alcohol consumption, unresolved anger or high levels of stress.

11 p.m.- 1 a.m. — Gall Bladder — Initial cleansing of all tissues, processes cholesterol, and enhances brain function. The liver begins to cleanse toxins. 1-3 a.m. — Liver — Cleansing of blood and processing of wastes. This is a common time to wake up.
For instance, the liver is at its peak detox stage between 1 and 3 am. You should sleep by midnight so that your liver could focus on its cleansing function. Additionally, your lungs are most actively cleansing themselves between 3 and 5 am.
Get Proper Sleep
Similarly, chronic liver diseases are associated with sleep disorders. Therefore, it is a two-way street, and sleep plays an important role in keeping your liver health intact. Try to get six to eight hours of sleep every night, preferably at the same time, to keep your liver healthy.
On the other hand, skipping morning and midday meals as well as eating late night/early morning meals are potentially harmful. Participants who did not have any meals from 4 to 10 am and 10 am to 4 pm were at 20 and 73 percent higher odds of developing fatty liver, respectively.
