Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 - 48 hours. This means: No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only). No saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments.
Don't Go Swimming Or Takes Baths
Chlorine can also be harsh on freshly waxed skin. And as we mentioned, bacteria thrives in these locations, making your skin vulnerable. This is all easily avoidable for the first few days. We also recommend avoiding heavy fragrances in perfume or lotion.
Our advice is to wait 24 to 48 hours so your skin has time to heal and hair follicles can close. Doing so will prevent any further skin irritation.
For at least 24 hours, you'll want to avoid saunas, tanning beds, and even the gym. Wait for Sex: Give yourself about 2 days, or 24-48 hours, to recover from the wax before engaging in any sexual activity. Keep it Loose: Avoid tight and constricting clothing for a few days after your wax.
Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours. Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc.) or loofahs for at least 24 hours after waxing as they might further irritate your skin.
Showering After Waxing
Generally speaking, it's not recommended to bathe for 24 hours after a waxing session. However, we know that life happens, activity happens, and you might feel the need or an inclination to bathe before this amount of time has passed.
Don't cake your skin with lotions or heavy creams the day of your wax appointment. Prior to your appointment, our esthetician will assure a clean skin area. However, we recommend avoiding these products after your appointment to avoid skin irritation. Don't take a hot bath or use a sauna following your wax appointment.
As fresh as you may feel, you are more susceptible to infections right after getting a wax as your pores are open and vulnerable. For best results, avoid pools, beaches, and being submerged in water for a few days following your wax.
It's perfectly fine to take a cool or warm shower after your wax, however, I recommend waiting at least 5-8 hours for the skin to recover. Avoid hot showers or steam rooms after your wax. Hair follicles remain open for hours after waxing, so it's best to avoid contact with any excess moisture for at least 24 hours.
NO hot shower or bath for at least 12 hours.
This makes it susceptible hot water entering the open hair follicle during a shower or bath. This will irritate the area and create discomfort. Once your follicles close you can return to your normal bathing routine. Just use warm or cool water for bathing after a wax.
After a Brazilian Wax, if you want to keep your skin looking and feeling smooth and healthy, we suggest waiting at LEAST 24 hours before working out. Waiting 36-48 hours is even more ideal! Try scheduling your “down-time days” around the time of your next waxing appointment.
But wait at least 24hrs after waxing before you take a bath. The heat will intensify any post-wax irritation and redness and will dry out your skin and open up your pores (leading to ingrown hairs).
By using hot water, you are allowing your pores to open up and drying out your skin. This is a direct shortcut to ingrown hairs. Therefore, to avoid a painful experience, we advise that you wait the recommended 24-48 hours before taking a hot shower or bath.
After Wax Information
For a Brazilian Wax please avoid all sex, especially oral sex for 24 hours. Avoid any tight clothing and anything that may constrict your freshly waxed areas.
Waxing and sweat are not pals. Sweat can cause irritation to the skin by bringing up dirt and debris to the surface of the skin, causing new irritation and prevent healing or making worse existing irritation.
If you aren't in dire need of a shower, don't take one. If you haven't picked up already, we'll say it again: Try not to shower for at least 8 hours following your waxing appointment. If possible, waiting a full day would be the best possible option for the integrity of your skin.
After a waxing, choose a shower over a bath for a few days. Submerging your post-wax skin in warm bath water can irritate the skin and make you more susceptible to infection. You'll also want to avoid jumping in the pool or hitting the beach, where your pores will be most open to infections.
The day after your wax apply a cream or lotion over your skin to moisturise away any dryness. Waxing is an exfoliating treatment that removes the dead cells on the surface of the skin along with unwanted hairs.
What we advise is showering before your waxing appointment. here's why: It is hygienic for the wax technician to work on clean skin. You don't need to have a special shower; a regular one will do.
Always avoid caffeine or alcohol before waxing because caffein will increase the skin sensitivity, which would make you feel more painful. However, caffeine right after waxing IS GOOD for your skin. It helps reduce possible irritation/inflammation of the skin.
And not only can a post-wax workout irritate the hair follicles, other elements that stem from exercise—chafing, friction, etc. —can potentially cause ingrown hairs. Instead, Equinox advises that you schedule your wax appointment on a workout rest day.
Generally 24 hours is enough time to ensure your skin has begun to heal. However, some people do prefer 36-40 hours rest, especially in the case of a brazillian wax. Consider wearing looser clothes as well. Tightly fitting gym clothes can irritate your sin on top of all the sweat.
