Dairy. It pays to bone up on dairy (milk, yogurt, and cheese) when you're trying to conceive. Adding dairy to your preconception diet is good not only for bone health but also — potentially — for your reproductive health. So drink that milk, spoon up that yogurt, sip that smoothie, nibble on that cheese.
Citrus fruits, such as grapefruit, oranges and lemons are excellent sources of vitamin C and are high in folic acid. Vitamin C is an antioxidant; as we've noted earlier, antioxidants can protect eggs from damage due to oxidative stress.
What Causes Infertility? Problems with ovulation are the most common reasons for infertility in women. A woman's age, hormonal imbalances, weight, exposure to chemicals or radiation and cigarette smoking all have an impact on fertility.
B6 supplementation has been associated with improvement in hormonal balance in women leading to improved PMS symptoms and better ovulatory cycles, which in turn, improved the odds of becoming pregnant.
Drinks with added sugar, like soda, lemonade, and sports and energy drinks are foods to avoid when trying to conceive. They provide virtually no other nutrients and lots of calories–almost all from added sugar.
Incorporate whole grains, lean meats, leafy greens, fresh vegetables, fruit and nuts in your diet to give your body what it needs to support your eggs. Avoid processed foods and meats when possible and limit your salt and sugar intake. -Maintain a healthy weight: You should strive for a healthy BMI (body mass index).
Asafoetida (popular as Hing) to prevent pregnancy after sex. Drinking asafoetida juice with water every month can prevent conception and avoid pregnancy after sex naturally. Do not consume asafoetida during your periods, discontinue consumption when your period starts.
If your menstrual cycle lasts 28 days and your period arrives like clockwork, it's likely that you'll ovulate on day 14. That's halfway through your cycle. Your fertile window begins on day 10. You're more likely to get pregnant if you have sex at least every other day between days 10 and 14 of a 28-day cycle.
Research has it that lemon has a contraceptive effect hence, women of childbearing age are cautioned against consuming it if they want to become pregnant. However, lemon juice consumption could be used as a primary form of birth control.
Folic acid and fertility
Folic acid does not help you get pregnant, but it's recommended while you're trying to get pregnant and in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Studies suggest that folic acid may also increase fertility. Women who take multivitamins with folic acid are more likely to ovulate (produce eggs). Previous studies found that women trying to conceive had somewhat higher pregnancy rates when taking folic acid supplements.
You could be worrying that you never will. However, there are many possible reasons why you aren't conceiving, including ovulation irregularities, structural problems in the reproductive system, low sperm count, underlying medical problems, or simply not trying enough.
A woman's peak reproductive years are between the late teens and late 20s. By age 30, fertility (the ability to get pregnant) starts to decline. This decline happens faster once you reach your mid-30s. By 45, fertility has declined so much that getting pregnant naturally is unlikely.
The main symptom of infertility is the inability to get pregnant. A menstrual cycle that's too long (35 days or more), too short (less than 21 days), irregular or absent can mean that you're not ovulating. There might be no other signs or symptoms.
As mentioned above, surgery to the ovaries—to remove a cyst or treat endometriosis—could damage the ovaries or reduce ovarian reserve. And chemotherapy and radiation, while obviously life-saving treatments for cancer and other illnesses, can destroy or damage a woman's eggs or cause premature menopause.
Dehydration can lead to low sperm count as well as decreased egg health, so it's not just important for you to stay hydrated, but for your partner or donor as well. Hydration also plays a role in the hormonal regulation that's key to fertility, and in the production of cervical fluid.
Have sex regularly. The highest pregnancy rates occur in couples who have sex every day or every other day. Have sex near the time of ovulation. If having sex every day isn't possible — or enjoyable — have sex every 2 to 3 days a week starting soon after the end of your period.
