Size A4 has its shortest edge (210mm) doubled to be the longest edge of A3 (420mm). A3 has its shortest edge (297mm) doubled to be the longest edge of A2 (594mm).
A2 poster size is 594mm x 420mm.
An A2 piece of paper measures 420 × 594 mm or 16.5 × 23.4 inches. Cutting it in half will create two A3 sheets of paper.

One of the most common poster sizes you'll see these days is the A2. At 59.4 x 42 cm, A2 posters are certainly not as large as bus stop ads or billboards, but they can comfortably fit on a wall or in a window, which makes them a perfect choice for advertising store openings or seasonal sales.

For example, the dimensions of A4 paper are 210x297mm, and half of A4 equals A5, and double A4 equals A3. Starting from A0, all subsequent A paper sizes are determined by halving the paper on its longest size. A0 halves to become A1, which halves to become A2, all the way down to A10.

A2 poster stands are used for free-standing poster display - generally stood on the floor. A1 display stands can either be at eye level or else the A-frame type - with the poster displayed closer to the floor. The A2 poster stand is popular for advertising and information signs.
But the average poster size printed in Australia is between A0 and A3, with the A1 poster size being the most common thanks to its larger dimensions – perfect for getting noticed in busy spaces. A2 poster sizes and A3 poster sizes are a little smaller, so are more frequently used for in store promotions.
Look into the "tile" option when printing. It will take a large design and print it across multiple pages, splitting it up. You should be able to do it through InDesign or Acrobat.

Equivalent A2 paper dimensions in pixels at 300 DPI and 72 DPI respectively are: 4961 pixels x 7016 pixels (print resolution) 1191 pixels x 1648 pixels (screen resolution)
Standard Poster Sizes. The most common poster sizes are 11×17, 18×24, 24×36 and 27×40. People come back to these classic sizes for nearly any poster you can imagine.
A3 paper size measurements are 297 mm x 420 mm, 29.7 cm x 42 cm or 11.7 in x 16.5 in.
Every 'A' size is double the previous size: A3 is twice the size of A4, and so forth. Remember that A8 is very small (about 2in x 3in) and A0 is big (nearly 3ft x 4ft).
