Most mustache work well on a square face. They draw the eye to the center and away from the outer edges. If you're lucky enough to have an oval face, almost anything goes.
Round or Square Face Shape
While the weighty walrus has potential for vertical lines that add flavor to wide, square, and round face shapes, these faces will particularly benefit from the upturned U, the horseshoe mustache.
If you've got an extra large mouth, choose an angular style such as the Pyramid mustache that's narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. The variety in length and angles will minimize the size of your mouth.
A moustache in most cultures across the globe is preferred and also taken as a sign of 'manliness' over the clean-shaven-baby-face look! Facial hairs are just a sign but not a foolproof method to denote maturity, nevertheless, women feel secure when a man with a moustache is around them.
33.9 percent of participants said a mustache makes a man look more mature, 22.3 said it made him look more masculine, and 26.4 percent just said outright, “It's sexy.”
The Stubble
The study also found that although women saw men with heavy stubble to be less ready to settle down than their full bearded counterparts, they also rated them as the most attractive overall. If you're debating on whether to rock facial hair, you can't go wrong with starting here.
Another arguably less scientific survey published in The Daily Mail two years later found that a full beard can add—wait for it—up to 10 years to a man's actual age, while a mustache adds five and a goatee four. Message? You shave, you save—a few precious years anyway.
It's simply a matter of symmetry
In the study, which was published in the Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, more than 60 per cent of respondents chose the 1:1 ratio between the upper and lower lip as the most attractive shape.
Make sure you are cutting your mustache right above your upper lip. Keep the angle at 45 degrees when trimming under your nose and along your lip line. Use your comb to detangle any stragglers. Trim right above the teeth of the comb if you need to remove any loose hairs.
Round Faces
What to avoid: It's all about staying away from both extremes of the spectrum. One-length cuts are too angular, which emphasizes the roundness of the face shape. But over-softening a round face shape with too many layers will only enhance the rounded effect.
In the early days of studying this kind of stuff, evolutionary biologists thought it might serve thermoregulatory or prophylactic purposes similar to body hair and pubic hair. Beards and mustaches are around the mouth, after all, and the mouth takes in food and other particles that might carry disease.
There are five main face shapes for men: oval, round, square, heart, and diamond. An oval face shape is considered the ideal shape, with balanced proportions and a slightly curved jawline.
2 cm tends to be a great length for the mustache as it's in that 'not too short, not too bushy' zone. But if you'd like a handlebar mustache, grow it out longer. Once you've grown your beard and have a good base to work from, you're ready to tame the beast into a gentleman.
Start by growing a beard for two to three weeks — yes, really! This will provide time for your mustache to grow in alongside your beard — a gradual transition that makes a big difference. From there, trim down your beard to an agreeable length using a beard trimmer — preferably, down to stubble as you'd normally shave.
Spurred by a shift away from clean-shaven looks and pop culture influences ranging from indie bands to “Top Gun,” mustaches have been following beards into the mainstream. Data from Gillette estimates that 12.5 million U.S. men, or 9.6% of the U.S. male population, were wearing mustaches as of September 2022.
Cupid. Cupid is the rarest of all lip forms. Cupid has a powerful, youthful appearance, and is very prominent in pre-adolescent females. Due to the natural growth process in a female's lips, the fullness of the lips fill in the middle first, then the sides.
Oval: Your face is often longer than wide, with the forehead standing out as the largest area of your face. According to Papanikolas, this form is typically regarded as the most attractive facial shape.
M shaped lips refers to the top lip that resembles the letter “M,” and is the most difficult lip shape to treat.
Protecting your face from the sun is the single best way of keeping it youthful. Much of the damage comes from the UVA part of the light spectrum, so you need to put on sunscreen that protects against it and UVB light, which causes sunburn. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat is also a good idea. Creams and lotions.
During puberty, the first facial hair to appear tends to grow at the corners of the upper lip (age 11–15). It then spreads to form a moustache over the entire upper lip (age 16–17). This is followed by the appearance of hair on the upper part of the cheeks and the area under the lower lip (age 16–18).
Summary. To get a believably manly mustache, you will need to pour at least two months into this process, but if you don't have patience. The mustache will grow thicker and fuller and longer as time goes on, so don't shave the whole thing off just because the awkward stage starts to get a little difficult.
“The mustache connotes authority, but also suggests a certain amount of silliness,” he said. “It's very masculine, but it's also very flamboyant and quietly sort of queer-coded.
This study asked over 8,500 women to rate men with different lengths of facial hair. The ladies were presented pictures of men who were clean shaven, wearing light stubble, heavy stubby, and a full beard. Once again, the results showed women were more attracted to those who had some sort of facial hair.
In this new study, published Tuesday in the Royal Society Open Science journal, very masculine faces and those with beards were rated more attractive than feminine-looking male faces or clean-shaven faces. This held true regardless if the woman was looking for a short-term or long-term relationships.
