"Come quick. Engine room nearly full," was sent from the Titanic only a few short minutes before the ship finally sank.
As depicted in the 1997 film starring Kate Winslet, Capt Smith later received warnings of icebergs while the liner was en route to New York. But these were not heeded and the ship travelled at speed until it struck an iceberg and sank.

According to Mr. Cooper, the author of a book on Captain Smith, Smith was not ignoring the ice warnings; he was simply not reacting to them. Ice warnings were just warnings that a ship sent saying that they had seen ice at a certain location (Kasprzak, 2012).

The average lifespan of an iceberg in the North Atlantic typically is two to three years from calving to melting. This means the iceberg that sank the Titanic "likely broke off from Greenland in 1910 or 1911, and was gone forever by the end of 1912 or sometime in 1913."
The water temperature on the night of the disaster was 28°F (-2°C), which is below the freezing point of sea water. Immersion in such cold water can cause several life-threatening conditions. One of the primary risks associated with cold water immersion is hypothermia.

He was branded a coward and received the unfortunate nickname of “J. Brute Ismay”, among others. There were many tasteless caricatures depicting Ismay abandoning the Titanic. One illustration shows a list of the dead on one side, and a list of the living on the other – 'Ismay' being the only name on the latter.

When a ship hits an iceberg head on, all the force would be transferred back to the ship, so it wouldn't have ripped open, but crumpled round, so only 2-3 compartments would have been breached. It was built to survive with 4 compartments breached.

Of the 337 bodies recovered, 119 were buried at sea. 209 were brought back to Halifax. 59 were claimed by relatives and shipped to their home communities. The remaining 150 victims are buried in three cemeteries: Fairview Lawn, Mount Olivet and Baron de Hirsch.

The very longest-living person to have survived the Titanic died on the 31st of May 2009. Her name was Elizabeth Gladys 'Millvina' Dean, and she was just two months old when she boarded the Titanic with her family.
"There were never any photographs taken on board the Titanic of the iceberg, only images of ones in the same area in the days before and after," auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said at the time, according to The Independent. "But Capt. Wood's photograph must be the most likely of all of these images.
The iceberg wasn't spotted until 11.40 PM. It's estimated that with modern radar technology the iceberg could have been spotted 80 miles away. Many people imagine that when the Titanic hit the iceberg that the passengers felt a large crash. That wasn't the case, some passengers didn't notice at all.
