Best Dog Dewormer Overall: Panacur C Review
Many veterinarians recommend Panacur C, which contains fenbendazole as the active ingredient. It's effective against the most common species of hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms, and whipworms. It's safe for dogs six weeks and older and pregnant and lactating pups.
Pyrantel pamoate (brand names Nemex®, Nemex 2®) is an anthelmintic (dewormer). It is used to treat intestinal roundworm, hookworm, and stomach worm parasites in many species including dogs, cats, small mammals, and birds. The use of pyrantel pamoate to treat intestinal parasites in cats is off-label.
Both prescription and over-the-counter puppy dewormer medications are effective, but be sure that you know what worm you are treating and read the labels to find the right medication.
What is the difference between Milbemax and Drontal? While very similar, Milbemax offers some advantages against Drontal. Milbemax dog wormer will treat or prevent a slightly broader spectrum of worms, including tapeworms, that Drontal does not.
Milbemax is one of the most effective cat wormers on the market, treating roundworm, tapeworm and hookworm. This broad spectrum intestinal dewormer can also offer protection against heartworm, if given monthly.

There are many different treatments for worms. Some are tablets and others are spot on treatments. You can also request the type of product that is easiest to give your pet! Different treatments also may cover different types of worms – some may only cover one type and some cover many.
A worming treatment every three months is usually enough to prevent problems from developing. It may be necessary to deworm your dog slightly more regularly if they scavenge a lot. Remember to protect your dog against lungworm as well as intestinal (gut) worms.
There are many tried and true home remedies for worms in dogs. While conventional deworming drugs can carry some nasty side effects, natural dewormers are a much safer choice. There are many foods and herbs like pumpkin seeds and black cumin seed that are both safe and effective natural dewormers for dogs.
Ivermectin is effective against most common intestinal worms (except tapeworms), most mites, and some lice. It is not effective against fleas, ticks, flies, or flukes.
Pumpkin seeds are an extremely effective deworming agent because they contain an amino acid called cucurbitacin. This paralyzes the worms making them easily eliminated from the intestine. They can be fed whole as a treat or you can grind them into a fine powder and add to Fido's food.
We recommend Drontal Allwormer, Paragard or Endogard dog worming tablets. Puppies should be wormed every 2 weeks until 12 weeks old and then once a month until 6 months. From 6 months old a regular 3 monthly deworming program should remain.
These guidelines recommend that if regular deworming is used, animals should be treated at least 4 times a year, with no more than 3 months between each treatment. This is based on some research indicating that dropping treatment to 3-4 times per year had no effect on parasite levels.
Drontal is remarkably effective against roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. It can be given to your dog in tasty beef flavouring so that it will be more appealing to your dog than regular tablets. You can give your dog Drontal monthly to help prevent unwanted worms from harming your pet.
Offering the tablet when they are hungry, just before their regular meal time may improve your chances of success.
Albendazole is the best medicine for deworming children.
The Deworming Process after a Few Days
You may be surprised to still see live worms in your dog's feces after deworming them, but this is normal. While this can be an unpleasant image, it's actually a good thing — it means the worms are no longer living inside your dog!
Routine Prevention - Using a monthly parasite control product approved by your veterinarian is the best prevention method against a worm infestation. Topical spot treatments and oral chews are available for monthly dosing of your dog to keep them protected from fleas, mosquitoes, and many types of worms.
Toxicity can occur if a dog is given an excessive dose of the medication (10 to 20 times the recommended dose). Additionally, certain dogs are genetically hypersensitive to the medication. In these dogs, ivermectin can pass directly to the brain and be toxic or even lethal.
In very rare occasions, systemic signs (such as lethargy), neurological signs (such as muscle tremors, ataxia and convulsions) and/or gastrointestinal signs (such as emesis, drooling, diarrhoea and anorexia) have been observed in dogs after administration of the veterinary medicinal product.
