MPAA has five rating categories
The new ratings system began with four categories: G (general audiences), M (mature audiences, changed in 1969 to PG, parental guidance suggested), R (restricted, no children under 17 allowed without parents or adult guardians), and X (no one under 17 admitted).
PG-13: PARENTS STRONGLY CAUTIONED. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. R: RESTRICTED. Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.
18A – 18 Accompaniment – Persons under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Additionally, admittance restricted to people 14 years of age or older in the Maritimes and Manitoba. R – Restricted – Admittance restricted to people 18 years of age or older.
R applies to movies that have strong language, sex, and violence, by accordance of the MPAA. Unrated is a cut extended with raunchier content that was not been seen by the MPAA. This usually applies to R Rated movies.
Rated M: Suggested for mature audiences - Parental discretion advised. Rated R: Restricted – Persons under 16 not admitted, unless accompanied by parent or adult guardian.
AMC Requires Adult Supervision For Guests Under 17 in R-Rated Movies. AMC policies specific to R-Rated titles include children under 6 are not allowed at R-Rated movies after 6pm at any theatre. Guests under 17 must be accompanied by a guardian who is 21 or older.
Joker is rated R by the MPAA for strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language and brief sexual images. Violence: People are frequently severely beaten.
Mature (M)
Films and computer games classified M (Mature) contain content of a moderate impact. M-rated films and computer games are not recommended for children under the age of 15. They include portrayals of elements such as violence and themes that require a mature outlook.
K. Suitable film for everyone, including children. Reasons and Content Descriptors. Explanation. The film does not contain violence, drug abuse, or sexual content.
One of the group's rules, for instance, says the F-bomb can be used as an expletive just once in a film rated PG-13, which means suitable for people 13 and older.

A film rated PG-13 for "intense violence" is given this rating if blood is present in a violent way. . In recent years, this rating has been used for the majority of American films released. Some films that have received a PG-13 rating have a director's cut with an R rating.
Mature (M) - The content is moderate in impact. Mature Accompanied (MA 15+) - The content is strong in impact. Restricted (R 18+) - The content is high in impact. Check the Classification (CTC) - message for unclassified films.

It is not recommended for viewing or playing by persons under 15 without guidance from parents or guardians. The content is moderate in impact. Films and computer games classified M (Mature) contain content of a moderate impact and are recommended for teenagers aged 15 years and over.
The R-rating doesn't ban children under 17 from a movie, it restricts them to watching it with a parent or guardian (and includes a recommendation that parents and guardians learn more before allowing their child to see the movie).
It has an MA15+ rating in Australia for "strong violence", but it is hardly the first comic book flick to show off blood and gore. Instead, what has concerned some critics is its depiction of mental illness and violence.
There's some sex-related dialogue and sexual gestures. Main characters smoke and drink, and a character is seen shooting heroin. Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, and many more familiar faces co-star.
"Joker is rated R, and for good reason. There's lots of very, very rough language, brutal violence, and overall bad vibes. It's a gritty, dark, and realistic Taxi Driver-esque depiction of one man's descent into madness. It's not for kids, and they won't like it, anyway.
Photo ID is required for proof of age. You must be at least 17 with a photo ID, which includes your birth date, to purchase a ticket for yourself for an R rated movie. If you are under 17, or do not have a photo ID, your parent must come to the theatre to purchase your ticket for an R rated movie.
Why is Smile rated R? Smile is rated R by the MPAA for strong violent content and grisly images, and language. Violence: People are seen cutting, stabbing, and burning themselves and others. A dead cat is shown.
