You can treat a nasolabial fold with an injection in the pyriform fossa at the ala base to project it forward and reduce a shadow, but you cannot do that same injection if the nasolabial fold runs all the way down to the oral commissures.
The standard way to inject dermal filler in the nasolabial folds is to use tiny 30 gauge needles. This injecting technique involves using a short, sharp needle to inject multiple spots along the nasolabial folds using boluses, otherwise known as big blobs of filler.
Nasolabial lines need five to 10 units.
Nasolabial fold: Angular branch of facial artery/lateral nasal artery. In the lower part of nasolabial fold it is important to stay superficial while injecting and in upper 1/3 of the fold deep or periosteal injections are safest.
On the day of the procedure, your medical provider injects 3 to 6 units of Botox in each corner of your lower lip. The targeted muscle is called Depressor Anguli Oris, and it's responsible for pulling the corners of your mouth downward.
Botox works by relaxing the muscles around the mouth, but it cannot soften the deep folds in the nasolabial area. In this case, a volume-adding injectable like dermal fillers is often the better choice because it can fill the deep wrinkles and smoothen the skin.
Nasolabial folds
If it's something that bothers you, dermal filler can be used to treat the area, and, typically, a practitioner will use anywhere from 0.5ml to 2ml filler per side, depending on the individual and how deep the lines are.
How long does Botox take to work on 11 lines? On average, it can take Botox 4-7 days to show results on 11 lines as the neurotoxin gets into the right places to block signals from the nerves to the muscles. To get faster results, you may do facial exercises for the neurotoxin to travel faster.
Juvederm and Restylane fillers last longer than other fillers. Juvederm and Restylane are currently the longest-lasting and most durable dermal fillers on the market. Juvederm and Restylane are families of hyaluronic acid fillers with numerous possible formulations.
Dermal Filler
Perhaps the most popular treatment for nasolabial fold concerns, hyaluronic acid (HA)-based dermal filler, like Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero®, can be artfully injected to lift and smooth the creases without simply plumping up the lines themselves.
How long does Nasolabial Filler take to settle? The final result is seen after 2- 3 weeks.
This non-surgical option involves injecting Botox to the corners of the lips. This prevents the corners of the mouth from turning down and lasts anywhere from three months to half a year. Sometimes patients will have Botox done on the frown lines of their forehead at the same time they have it done on their lips.
BOTOX Units Per Treatment Area
Frown or Glabellar Lines (10-25 units) Crow's Feet (5-15 per side) Bunny or Nasals Lines (5-10 units) Smile Lift or Corners of the Mouth (3-6 units)
The good news is that you can still smile after getting a nasolabial fold filler! The filler is injected into the folds, not the muscles that control your facial expressions, so it should not affect your ability to smile.
Most nasolabial folds will typically require two syringes to fully correct. One syringe of Juvederm is sometimes sufficient for mild nasolabial folds. For lip augmentation, one syringe will sculpt and enhance the lips.
Side effects /risks with dermal fillers in the nasolabial folds: Bruising: occurs in a significant number of cases. Infection is a very rare complication, but always a possibility when the needle goes into the skin. Necrosis: (blood vessel being blocked, interfering with blood supply to the skin) is very rare.
Similar to any cosmetic treatments, there can be side effects or complications associated with fillers. If you experience bruising, swelling, lumps, and bumps, this is often the normal part of the healing process. These side effects should resolve within 14 days so the true results of fillers can appear.
While it is possible for fillers to migrate, this side effect is extremely rare and can be avoided by choosing a qualified injector. Though filler migration is very uncommon, its likelihood increases when fillers are performed by an inexperienced or underqualified injector.
Botox: This freezes muscles to stop creases and wrinkles caused by facial expressions. These are typically found in the upper face, such as the forehead and around the eyes. Dermal fillers: These use hyaluronic acid and similar substances to “fill in” or plump areas that have lost volume and smoothness.
You should avoid injecting botulinum toxin into the frontalis muscle, which is the muscle that raises your eyebrows and arches your forehead. You should also try to not inject botox into several other facial muscles, such as those that allow you to smile or chew.
Smoker lines can be treated by using precise administration of Botox®* injections into the fine dynamic facial muscles around the mouth. These anti-wrinkle injections can be used to prevent lines from developing/deepening, or to soften existing lines.
