Where does Eddie meet the fourth person in Heaven? At a wedding reception.
The fourth person Eddie meets in Heaven is his wife, Marguerite. She is one of the few people he meets whom he knew in his life. The fourth person Eddie meets in Heaven helps him begin to see past his regret.
In the end, it shows that Eddie's Heaven is the Stardust Band Shell, where he met Marguerite.
Chapter 9: The Fourth Person Eddie Meets in Heaven
Eddie finds himself in a small room. He notices that his body has aged since when he saw Ruby. He pushes through many different doors and through each can see a different wedding reception with different languages and varying cultures.
The fifth person Eddie meets in heaven. Tala was the little girl who Eddie saw crawling into the burning fort during the war.
Eddie's fifth person in heaven, a little Filipino girl who Eddie unknowingly kills while he and his unit are escaping captivity during the war. Tala is affectionate, trusting, and wise. Following her mother's instructions, Tala hides from Eddie and his men in one of the abandoned village huts.
The people Eddie meets are- the Blue Man, the Captain, Ruby, his wife Marguerite, and Tala(read the book to know their stories). Surprisingly, out of all these five people, it is Tala- a young girl, who Eddie meets for the first time(in heaven, no less!), who had the most profound impact on him.
Notes. Marguerite teaches Eddie his fourth lesson which is the power of love. She tells Eddie that although people may eventually pass away, their love will endure even after their death. Although her life ended before Eddies, her love for him endured and will continue to forever.
In heaven, Eddie waits at the Stardust Band Shell for a little girl, “Amy or Annie,” to live out her life and to one day come meet him and four other people. His lesson for her would be “that each affects the other, and the other affects the next, and the world is full of stories, but the stories are all one.”
Lesson 4: Lost love is still love
In The Five People You Meet In Heaven, Eddie, through his wife, learns that love doesn't die even when a person passes away. Love is an infinite emotion, and can't easily be wiped away because the person leaves physically.
Ruby's husband was later hospitalized in the same room as Eddie's dying father, allowing Ruby to witness Eddie's father's dying words of regret. In heaven, Ruby tells Eddie the true story of how his father died saving Mickey, and teaches him the lesson of forgiveness.
Marguerite is the central source of Eddie's happiness, and his life plunges when she dies of brain cancer at the age of 47. In heaven, she takes Eddie to a heaven full of weddings, where she teaches him that true love never dies.
Ruby tells Eddie that during the night, just before he died, Eddie's father in The Five People You Meet in Heaven staggered to the window, opened it, and started calling out to Eddie, Joe, and their mother.
In heaven, Eddie walks with Marguerite, as the two revel in every detail of each other's presence. She tells him she chose a heaven full of weddings because she loves the moment when a man and woman say their vows, when they believe so deeply in the power of their love.
Walking on, Eddie asks Marguerite if she also met five people and if they were able to make a difference. She says that they did. He asks if she knows about his life since her own death.
Eddie never met Ruby during his life, as she was much older and they weren't directly related, but the amusement park where Eddie works all his life, Ruby Pier, was built for Ruby by her husband. Ruby feels connected to Eddie, as she was present in the shared hospital room when Eddie's father died.
While escaping captivity, the Captain shoots Eddie in the leg because he believes it is the only way he can get Eddie to leave with them. During the escape the Captain is trying to clear a path for his unit to get out, and he is killed by a landmine.
Eddie saves the little girl - We find out at the end of the novel that Eddie did save the little girl from the falling amusement cart. It is important to note the symbolism of this child's rescue.
Eddie stops praying because Rabozzo's death symbolizes the men's sense of abandonment by God.
How does Eddie's body feel when he arrives to meet his fourth person? He feels old, achy, pudgy in the middle, and his knee is hurting. Eddie is jealous of his brother because he is successful and had a choice, he was not pushed into working at Ruby Pier.
Who finally leads Eddie to Heaven? Tala; her hands were in his. What does Eddie feel that ultimately brings him peace?
What is the last thing Eddie remembers physically feeling before he dies? The little girl's hands in his own. 17.
WHAT WAS THE LAST LESSON EDDIE LEARNED? TALA TAUGHT EDDIE THAT HE DID SAVE THE LITTLE GIRL. SHE ALSO TOLD HIM HOW HIS LIFE HAD MUCH IMPORTANCE, HE KEPT CHILDREN LIKE HER SAFE.
The second person Eddie meets in heaven is his captain from World War II. They fought together in the Philippines where Eddie's troop, including the captain, was taken prisoner by four Filipino guards. Eddie, the captain, and three other soldiers were held in a bunker and forced to work in a coal mine all day.
The third person Eddie meets in heaven is Ruby after the name, Ruby Pier which was given by her husband, Emile. Emile made Ruby Pier as a wedding promise to Ruby. She was Eddie's third person because without Ruby Pier, Eddie would not be the same without growing up on the pier.
