When applying perfume correctly, you want to hit all the right spots. "It's important to select the areas of the body that are naturally warm and moist, like the insides of the elbows, back of the knees, chest, and the sides of the neck," says Milèo. "These areas allow the perfume to be truly enjoyed.
Pulse points, including behind the ear, at the base of the throat and on the wrists, are regarded as being among the best places to spray perfume. When you correctly apply perfume, your scent lasts much longer, and you would need to reapply your fragrance less often.
If the scent has a high alcohol content, it's best to apply it on the skin. If the fragrance has a low alcohol content, it can be sprayed on clothes for a more subtle and long-lasting effect. Remember, a fragrance is an extension of your personality, so wear it wherever you feel most comfortable."
The answer has to do with hormones—specifically, pheromones. “Pheromones are chemicals that animals and humans produce, which change and influence the behavior of another animal or human of the same species,” says Erica Spiegelman, wellness specialist, recovery counselor, and author of The Rewired Life.
“Don't cover it up with your clothing,” he says, and instead target areas exposed to the air: the pulse points of the neck and the wrists or inner elbows, if you're wearing a sleeveless blouse. The only exception, however, is if you're in an intensely hot climate—then it's best to not apply scent directly to your body.
Don't rub perfume into your skin.
But rubbing perfume into your skin in this way actually causes the fragrance's top notes to fade and evaporate before they can settle. This means the notes that made you fall for the scent to begin with never truly translate onto your skin (gasp!).
"Your ankles are always in motion, so it helps project the fragrance wherever you go," says Claisse. "It continues the scent from head to toe." Claisse recommends applying your scent on your body before putting on your clothes, so that the fragrance can absorb into your skin.

If you don't know how many sprays of fragrance should you do, check the perfume concentration of your fragrance. If you have some light and refreshing Eau de Cologne or Eau de Toilette, make 3-4 sprays without any worries. But if you have some intensive and heavy Eau de Parfum or Perfume, make 1-2 sprays.
When we wear a fragrance regularly, the brain associates it with our own body odor. The fact that we no longer smell our perfume is part of a physiological process of olfaction. With our own scent, the stimulation of our olfactory sensors is permanent.
Spraying perfume onto your armpits poses as another potential cause of irritation. The interaction between your perfume and your armpits' sweat glands could result in itching and burning.
Apply immediately after you shower
Your open pores will soak up the scent and leave your skin smelling fabulous all day long. However, don't apply the perfume while your skin is still wet as it will only rub off when you dry yourself!
Reapply your perfume once throughout the day if you're wearing eau de parfum or every four hours if you're wearing eau de toilette. The most potent perfumes don't require a second spritz and can work their magic for a full 24 hours. When you reapply, spritz your perfume only three or four times.
Top notes represent the first impression. They may not be the longest-lasting element of a fragrance but they're the first thing you'll smell when trying a new fragrance. Top notes represent the initial scents that lure you in, causing you to make your first impression of the fragrance.
Put on Pulse Points
Your neck, wrists, backs of knees, and other pulse points emit more heat than other parts of your body. And that heat actually activates and maximizes your perfume.
The reason for this is that these points on your body emanate heat, and this helps your fragrance released into the air. The give warmest spots on your body are base of the throat, behind the ear, on the wrists, in the inner elbow and behind your knees.
In general, you need to own at least two perfumes. With two perfumes, you can have cold and warm weather perfumes to ensure a matching scent all year round. More perfumes are recommended, especially if you want to be able to change things.
