Australian swimming: Shayna Jack caps remarkable comeback from drugs ban.
Australian Shayna Jack said she thought about quitting before returning to the pool after a drugs ban and qualifying for the Commonwealth Games. Jack, now 23, was banned for four years after testing positive for muscle growth agent ligandrol in June 2019.
Her swimming career was left in tatters in late 2020 when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed the result of a 2019 out-of-competition test showed Jack had inadvertently ingested the banned substance Ligandrol.
Jack was initially banned for four years after testing positive to Ligandrol on 26 June 2019, almost three weeks before the world swim titles in South Korea.
“I was swimming into a wall, as per usual, my warm-up for my 100m freestyle that day and another swimmer in front of me has turned and pushed off the wall,” Jack said. “As she's pushed off the wall, my fingers have unfortunately gone down the back of her togs, and she's rotated around and taken my fingers with them.”
Ligandrol is taken orally as a tablet at doses between 0.5 and 2 milligrams. The drug is what pharmacists call a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM).
Jack said she did not knowingly take Ligandrol but noted it could be found in contaminated supplements. Ligandrol can help repair and build muscles.
As a result of her successful 2021 Olympics campaign, and under a new rule from Swimming Australia, McKeon was pre-selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England without having to take part in the Australian Swimming Championships.

Throughout the 1800s it was illegal to swim at Sydney beaches during the day. This was because people believed it was wrong to be seen in little or no clothing in public spaces. People could swim only in the early morning and late evening, and men and women could never bathe together.

Adam Peaty was born on 28 December 1994 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire to Mark and Caroline Peaty, the youngest of four children.
Shayna's passion for swimming started from the age of 18 months. From that point onwards she was emersed in water loving the way swimming made her feel. By the age of 10 years old she knew firmly what her aspirations were, telling her family that she was going to be an Olympian.
Shayna Jack is from Queensland, Australia.
Showing determination and resilience, Shayna made her individual return to international competition after three years at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. She won gold in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay, silver in the women's 100m freestyle, and bronze in the women's 50m freestyle.
When taken by mouth: Ligandrol is possibly unsafe for most people when taken by mouth. Side effects include liver damage, heart attack, stroke, and others. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Ligandrol is possibly unsafe when pregnant or breast-feeding. Avoid using.
Androgenic Anabolic Steroids (AASs) and Testosterone
Not all AASs are performance enhancing. Some AASs enhance swimming strength, tolerance for anaerobic work, and shorten recovery time.
Though not an approved drug, ligandrol has been sold on the black market in countries where it is classified as an illegal substance. Ligandrol is on the World Anti-Doping Association list of prohibited drugs and has been found in drug testing samples of some athletes.
As per the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), LGD 4033 is classified as a Schedule 4 drug, like all other SARMs. This means that is considered as a prescription-only drug or an animal remedy medicine. It is illegal to use and possess LGD 4033 without having proper prescription.
Although hGH, EPO, and anabolic steroids and testosterone are commonly discussed in swimming circles, only anabolic steroids and testosterone seem capable of direct performance enhancement.
Is LGD-4033 prohibited under the World Anti-Doping (WADA) Prohibited List? Yes, LGD-4033 is prohibited under class S1. 2 Other Anabolic Agents on the WADA Prohibited List. LGD-4033, and all SARMs, are prohibited at all times for all athletes, both in and out-of-competition.
