The only surviving child of Kayce and Monica, Tate Dutton (Brecken Merrill) is an adventurous boy who—like his father and grandfather—has been through hell more than once.
John Dutton III and Evelyn's first child, Lee (Dave Annable) was killed in the first season of Yellowstone after he was shot during a confrontation with the neighboring Broken Rock Reservation.
John and Evelyn were blessed with four children: Lee, Jamie, Beth, and Kayce. They live and grow up on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Kayce extended the family, marrying Monica Long and having a son named Tate, the grandson of John Dutton.
Spencer Dutton
The second son of James and Margaret Dutton, Spencer was born some time after the family settled in Montana.
Margaret (Faith Hill), married to James, was the original leading lady of the Dutton family. She served as a nurse in the Civil War in which James fought in. She was the mother to three children (whom we meet in 1883), Elsa, John, and Spencer.
Lee may have initially been the favorite, but Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was the prodigal son. John probably didn't react in the best way when he branded him with the Yellowstone 'Y' after Kayce told him that he was in love with a pregnant Monica Long (Kelsey Asbille), but time heals all wounds.
Elsa died in 1883, and though we know that John Dutton Sr. (James Badge Dale) is ultimately the great-grandfather of Kevin Costner's John Dutton III, he dies in the gunfight, leaving only one surviving child, Jack (Darren Mann). (The industry continues to criminally underuse James Badge Dale).
With the "Yellowstone" prequel series "1923" set to return for season 2 on Paramount+, fans of the love affair between Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) have plenty to look forward to as the couple continues their arduous journey from Africa to Montana.
Spencer Dutton
The younger brother of John Dutton Sr. (and the youngest child of 1883's James and Margaret Dutton, born after that show's conclusion) Spencer served in WWI and remains haunted by his experiences.
Spencer is the son of James and Margaret Dutton, who you might remember from the prequel series, 1883, and he's the nephew of Jacob Dutton (played by Harrison Ford).
Yellowstone fans know that Duttons have been buried in the same spot in Montana for over a century. The Dutton family cemetery makes more sense after 1883 revealed that Elsa was the first person to be buried on the land.
Lee Dutton was the oldest son of John and Evelyn Dutton, and John's Ranch Hand. Lee was born before his father inherited the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, therefore essentially built the ranch with his father.

(Though possibly not for much longer!) After Scottish sheep herder Banner Creigton (Jerome Flynn) and his gang ambushes the Dutton family on their way out of Billings, John Dutton Sr. (James Badge Dale) died immediately from automatic gunfire.
This patrilineal bloodline ends with Tate Dutton. (Jamie Dutton's child is, at least by name, also the youngest progeny of this family.) Tate also represents the seventh generation of Dutton, which is important. We'll explain that later.

Apparently, Phyllis was a drug addict who did not care for the child. Thus, Garrett killed her so that James could be taken away from them and raised in a better family. Evelyn Dutton and John then adopted James, and he began living with the Duttons.
Spencer Dutton is the younger son of James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) from the 1883 series. He is also the younger brother of John Dutton Sr (James Badge Dale). As James Dutton from 1883 was John Dutton's great-grandfather, this makes Spencer one of John's grandfathers.
But returning savior nephew Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) displays his killer instinct in the Paramount+ "Yellowstone" prequel. In the finale, Spencer wins a sword duel on yet another ship trying to return home to his embattled Montana family.
Spencer had a deceased older sister named Elsa who died in either 1883 or 1884, and an older brother named John. His aunt Claire (the sister of his father), her husband Henry and their daughter Mary Abel all died before he was born. His brother John later worked for their uncle Jacob Dutton and aunt Cara.
James and Margaret later had another son, Spencer, John's younger brother. Emma and John had a son, Jack. Another child, born some time after Jack's birth, died at a young age, which made Jack their only child.
