Merryweather, one of the three good fairies, weakened the curse so Aurora would only sleep. Determined to prevent this, three good fairies raise Aurora as a peasant in order to protect her, patiently awaiting her sixteenth birthday — the day the spell can only be broken by a kiss from her true love, Prince Phillip.
In this classic story of romance, Prince Florimund awakened Aurora to life by offering to take the curse of sleep upon himself in her place. Because of the great love and sacrifice he showed towards Aurora, the curse was broken and Prince Florimund was no longer bound in slumber.
It's a significant departure that Aurora (Elle Fanning) is awakened not by a kiss from Prince Phillip (Brenton Thwaites), but instead by a kiss from the villainous Maleficent (Angelina Jolie).
Overview. While the princess will indeed grow in grace and beauty, she will be cursed. When the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on a spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep like death.
From that day on, Aurora was the Queen of the Moors and Queen of the Human Land, as Stefan had plummeted to his death, and Maleficent now became the guardian of the Moors and became Aurora's godmother.
Princess (later Queen) Aurora, Aurora or Sleeping Beauty is the deuteragonist of the 2014 live action Disney film Maleficent and also its 2019 sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. She is the only daughter and only child of the deceased King Stefan and Queen Leila, and the "goddaughter" of the fairy Maleficent.
On Maleficent's sixteenth birthday, Stefan kissed her. However, after some period of time after this, he didn't come to see Maleficent. Stefan later betrayed her and stole her wings, so he would be able to become the new king. Stefan later married Leila, Henry's daughter, and she became his wife and queen.
The curse sadly has a no-backsies clause, so Maleficent instead races a magically unconscious Prince Phillip to the castle to kiss the now sleeping Aurora, and break the curse.
The Maleficent version of King Stefan was initially good, but he became an evil villain. When Stefan was first crowned king after cutting off Maleficent's wings, until Aurora's christening, he appeared to be just a wise king, but that all changed quickly when Maleficent cursed his infant daughter Aurora.
As he had enough of him and Maleficent making each other miserable after the love they had for each faded away, he had believed that him leaving his family was the best thing for his daughter, the one good that came out of their former relationship.
When he leaves, Aurora reveals (again without being told) that she is pregnant with twins, even though she was a virgin. Looking outside, Toorop sees both Gorsky's men and the Noelite group, heavily armed and waiting for them, all there to guarantee her delivery to the High Priestess.
Determined to prevent this, three good fairies raise Aurora as a peasant in order to protect her, patiently awaiting her sixteenth birthday — the day the spell can only be broken by a kiss from her true love, Prince Phillip.
Merryweather is the shortest fairy, dressed in a blue gown, a blue hat, and a blue cape clipped with a blue circle.
The original version of Maleficent has been called as "one of the most sinister Disney Villains". She is generally described as an "evil, cold hearted fairy who can curse an innocent baby just because she is not invited to the christening ceremony."

Weaknesses. Iron: The slightest contact could burn her skin, and prolonged exposure could weaken her dramatically. However, when determined enough, Maleficent was able to snap an iron chain holding a chandelier with her wings, proving that even iron could barely slow her down when she was at her most dangerous.
Princess Aurora is not actually a blood relative of Maleficent – in fact the Princess is the daughter of King Stefan and Queen Leila. However she is the adopted daughter of Maleficent – who is protector of the Moors in the franchise, and is portrayed as a tragic, rather than evil, character.
[Spoiler Warning] After Maleficent is killed while saving Aurora, she turns to dust, and Aurora sheds several tears over her ashes. The powerful expression of spontaneous love in turn resurrects Maleficent, causing her to literally rise from the ashes as a phoenix.
In Heart of the Moors, we see his sweet, loyal nature as he unflinchingly helps Maleficent and Aurora time and again. No King Stefan. King Stefan sucked in Maleficent. He broke Maleficent's heart and totally betrayed her.
