Hercules' strength is rarely matched. There were times when he even overpowered the Incredible Hulk – a feat that not even Thor could complete. So, when it comes to physical strength, Hercules is the strongest.
Unfortunately, the evil god Amatsu-Mikaboshi saw the potential to turn Alexander into the new God of War as part of his campaign against the Olympians. In issue #5, Zeus was mortally wounded by Amatsu-Mikaboshi while Ares was forced to fight Alexander to the death.
Thor wanted Zeus and the other gods to help him fight Gorr the Godbutcher (Christian Bale), who—as you can perhaps guess from his name—poses a threat to all the gods. Zeus is uninterested in helping. Thor then kills Zeus using Zeus' own thunderbolt, which (frankly) feels like a bit of an overreaction.

In the end, Hercules clobbered the Norse god and left him in a pile on the ground. Although this was the only decisive victory between the two, Hercules did also shove Thor off his own comic book cover in Thor #356, and, honestly, that probably stung even more.
An Olympian God, Hercules is the son of Zeus and he possesses God-like strength, power, and invulnerability.
