Shameless characters Ian and Mickey got the best ending, moving into an apartment together and considering parenthood. Carl got a fitting end: he considers buying the Alibi and making it into a cop bar. Liam, on the other hand, didn't get much of an ending at all.

Ian overhears Byron speaking badly about Mickey and he defends his man's honor, punching him in the face. This act of Gallavich love gives Mickey the green light to punch Cole as well, as Ian then proposes to Mickey!
He Wouldn't Commit To Mickey
Ian ended up with many complete strangers whom he had no feelings for and didn't care how much he hurt Mickey by doing so. Although these two characters have the best romantic partner potential, Ian resented Mickey for trying to take care of him.
But, the fate of the character and whether or not he would get a happy ending was up in the air. Luckily, the series did decide to give him a mostly happy ending and to finally let him reunite with Mickey, his old boyfriend.
