Rowena was the wife of Godric Gryffindor and the best friend of Helga Hufflepuff. She also maintained a good friendship with Salazar Slytherin in their early years due to him being able to challenger her intelligence, but when his friendship with Godric broke down, she took her husband's side and pushed him away.
Helga and Healthcliff were married within the year, just a few days after her elder brother, Owin. It was a beautiful ceremony. She thought her mother might wash away from all the tears she'd shed in those few days. Helga is the first to admit that her marriage to Heathcliff was, at first, awkward.

She is perceptive
Ravenclaws are perceptive, and Luna noticed all kinds of things others didn't during her time at Hogwarts. There was that time she explained Ron in one sentence: 'He says very funny things sometimes, doesn't he?

Her real parents were Daneel and Dean Novak, Pureblooded wizards. Turns out Daneel was Tom Riddles younger sister, Daneel Riddle. In the Chamber itself, we see a large statue of a wizard, which Harry presumes is Salazar Slytherin. We also meet Tom Riddle, who is, as it turns out, the heir of Slytherin. Present only in spirit, he has all the same been controlling Ginny, and having her act as Slytherin's heir.
While it's true that Voldemort is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin, he is the “Heir of Slytherin” because he is a parselmouth and he figures out he needs to communicate with the basilisk to open the Chamber of Secrets. Tom Riddle, Jr simply appropriates the title “Heir of Slytherin” for himself.
Neither of them is Slytherin's heir. Although, as Dumbledore says, Harry's ability to speak Parseltongue is a skill accidentally transferred by Slytherin's actual heir, Voldemort, when he tried to kill Harry as a baby. So perhaps this is one myth with a bit of truth to it.

Literally, their House colors represent wheat and dirt, symbolizing their humility (rather than the precious metal secondary colors of the other Houses).
