In the season finale, April and Matthew get married. She resigns from the hospital to provide much-needed medical care for the homeless communities in Seattle, something she and Matthew had been doing together on a voluntary basis.
"Take It Back" (episode 13) revealed that April and Jackson left the church together and got married in secret. Considering that the episode also revealed Grey-Sloan Memorial had just implemented a non-fraternizing policy, the writers hinted that this wouldn't remain a secret for long.
By the time Avery's required year living in Hawthorne House is over, Avery and Jameson are in a relationship. Jameson becomes increasingly protective of Avery, which she gets angry about. But they are able to work through things and remain together happily.
Jackson professed his love for April as she stood at the altar with Matthew. So, April and Jackson ran off together and eloped. April and Jackson get pregnant unexpectedly.
She was married to Jackson Avery, with whom she has a deceased son, Samuel, and a daughter, Harriet Kepner-Avery. She later married her former fiancé Matthew Taylor, though the marriage was short-lived.
April starts seeing Matthew again and their relationship is made public when the two are involved in a car accident, where April almost dies of hypothermia, after April finally wakes up from her coma after Jackson prays for her, her friends are relieved. In the season finale, April and Matthew get married.
April and Jackson do eventually end up getting pregnant twice (and their first baby, Samuel, sadly dies at birth). But before all that, when their relationship was still quite new, April tells Jackson that she thinks she might be pregnant.
April's labor was induced so she could give birth and they could meet their son and say goodbye. Their son, Samuel Norbert Avery, died soon after. Viewers later saw a scene of the two grieving in the flashbacks during their dedicated episode, "Unbreak My Heart."
On Valentine's Day, Kepner returns to the hospital, where she and Avery embrace in the foyer. In season 12, their marriage begins to fall apart and they grow estranged. In episode 11, they file for a civil divorce. After their divorce is completed, Kepner reveals that she is pregnant with Avery's child.
Jackson Avery and Dr. April Kepner — and to fans' delight, "Japril" finally got back together! Sarah Drew, who played April on the Shondaland hit from 2009 to 2018, told PEOPLE returning to set and to her character "felt like coming home."
24. Lexie Grey and Jackson Avery. Lexie and Jackson, beautiful humans and capable doctors, get together during one of Lexie's numerous breaks from Mark. There was never much hope for them, which is a shame because they are a great pairing.
Meredith Grey
Although Meredith has performed a number of surgeries and has made her research on different topics, what finally turned her into a Harper Avery Award recipient was the groundbreaking procedure she used to save Megan Hunt's life.
Later on, April almost dies when she and her fiancé, Matthew Taylor (Justin Bruening), are in a car accident and she develops hypothermia. Even though she's alive, the accident does leave her in a coma.
In the ninth season, Karev befriends intern Jo Wilson. They begin a relationship in the tenth season until their break-up in the twelfth season. However, they get back together again and marry in the fourteenth season.
Owen and Teddy start sleeping with each other again, and in the season finale, Owen proposes to Teddy, which she accepts. In the beginning of Season 18, Owen and Teddy got married at the Emerald City Bar after their wedding at the Park was interrupted by a bicycle accident.
Coming up on Grey's Anatomy Season 12, Episode 15, "I Am Not Waiting Anymore," airing THURSDAY MARCH 24, 8|7c, Jackson reacts after finding out from Arizona in last week's episode, "Odd Man Out," that April is pregnant. Meanwhile, Alex and the team of doctors must handle an hours-long triple-organ transplant surgery.
Callie and Arizona have a five-year relationship, ultimately marrying in season 7 and divorcing in season 11. Callie starts a new relationship with Penny Blake and leaves to go to New York with her in the season 12 finale.
Season 9: Derek Bailey Shepherd's birth and buying Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. After surviving the plane crash on the season 8 finale, Meredith and Derek discovered that Meredith was pregnant. Their son Derek Bailey Shepherd was born at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in the middle of a blackout.
Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) A part of Seattle Grace/Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital since season 5, Arizona left the show during the season 14 finale. She moved to New York City, where reconciliation with ex-wife Callie may or may not be taking place (off-screen, of course).
Why Did Sarah Drew Leave Grey's Anatomy? Per Deadline, the producers must decide whether to pick up the option for each cast member at the start of every new season. Before Season 15 started, they decided to not renew Drew's contract, meaning she was effectively let go from the ABC show.
In the finale "Jump into the Fog", Jo voluntarily checks into the psych ward. In the sixteenth season, Jo emerges from the psych ward, and she and Alex get legally married, after finding out they never signed a marriage license. She also becomes an attending. After "My Shot", Alex tells Jo he has gone to his mother's.
Down: When April didn't turn out to be pregnant, she was a little too relieved. Jackson was hurt, and they broke up. Down: They both took interns as dates to Bailey's wedding, and when Jackson revealed he had started sleeping with his date, April was not happy. She said they couldn't even be friends anymore.
Turns out there was some miscommunication between Arizona and Jackson - he thinks April knows he's seeing other people; Arizona thinks he knows April's pregnant -- and to clear up the confusion, Arizona blurts out that April's pregnant, seconds before April storms into the room. Whoops.
In the last minute, April revealed to Arizona that she was pregnant. Oh, and Jackson wasn't marrying Tatiana as we were led to believe — she was marrying someone else, Jackson was just walking her down the aisle.
Eventually, Derek and Meredith decide to marry, but on their wedding day, the pair give their "perfect" wedding ceremony to Izzie and Alex, to marry each other during the planned ceremony instead. Meredith and Derek instead marry by writing their wedding vows on a post-it note.
