Thursday's Season 18 finale of Grey's Anatomy gave fans a real treat: the return of not just one, but two beloved characters in Dr. Jackson Avery and Dr. April Kepner — and to fans' delight, "Japril" finally got back together!
She married Jackson Avery and had two children: a son, Samuel, who died of osteogenesis imperfecta type II, and a daughter named Harriet. The character's story concluded with the 14th season. It was revealed in season 17 that April Kepner left Seattle with Jackson Avery to run the Catherine Fox foundation.
In the ninth season, Karev befriends intern Jo Wilson. They begin a relationship in the tenth season until their break-up in the twelfth season. However, they get back together again and marry in the fourteenth season.
Besides another attempt on Avery's life and the ever-present love triangle, the only thing they really discover in this book is that Toby is, in fact, not Avery's father, and that Avery and Jameson end up together for real.
Remember all those reasons why April and Matthew getting married after she had already left him at the altar once and then also his new wife died under her watch felt like a horrific idea? Yeah, they split up because of those. Matthew went to see his sister and he isn't coming back.
First place – Jackson Avery and Maggie Pierce – 48%
After finally getting together in the second half of Season 15, Maggie and Jackson broke up in the Grey's Anatomy Season 16 premiere.

24. Lexie Grey and Jackson Avery. Lexie and Jackson, beautiful humans and capable doctors, get together during one of Lexie's numerous breaks from Mark. There was never much hope for them, which is a shame because they are a great pairing.
In the last minute, April revealed to Arizona that she was pregnant. Oh, and Jackson wasn't marrying Tatiana as we were led to believe — she was marrying someone else, Jackson was just walking her down the aisle.
Cristina Yang & Owen Hunt – After the shooting, Cristina and Owen decided to get married.
After many will-they-or-won't-they moments, the two finally tie the knot at the beginning of Season 18. Soon after they got married, however, the two had to go on the run because Hunt was administering end-of-life medicine to veterans and got caught.
Between Grey's Anatomy seasons 16 through 18, Amelia and Teddy's relationship consistently grew into a supportive friendship, no matter what happened in their personal lives and was ultimately a positive outcome from Amelia and Owen's breakup.
Coming up on Grey's Anatomy Season 12, Episode 15, "I Am Not Waiting Anymore," airing THURSDAY MARCH 24, 8|7c, Jackson reacts after finding out from Arizona in last week's episode, "Odd Man Out," that April is pregnant. Meanwhile, Alex and the team of doctors must handle an hours-long triple-organ transplant surgery.
After hearing that the baby's bones were already starting to break in the womb, causing him pain, April and Jackson decided to allow Dr. Nicole Herman to induce labor at 24 weeks. Their son, whom they named Samuel Norbert Avery, was born. He was quickly baptized and his parents held him until he died.
In the finale "Jump into the Fog", Jo voluntarily checks into the psych ward. In the sixteenth season, Jo emerges from the psych ward, and she and Alex get legally married, after finding out they never signed a marriage license. She also becomes an attending. After "My Shot", Alex tells Jo he has gone to his mother's.
It took her half the book to kiss him, then another half to kiss him again. Then in this one (Which takes place 6+ months after the last one, further proof that it wasn't a needed book) she and Jameson have sex 3 times (all closed door. At least, to the point I read to. Yeah, 3 sex scenes in the first half.)
Toby tells Avery that while he is not her biological father, he cares for her as if she were his daughter. Toby was there the night Avery was born and helped pick her name.
By the time Avery's required year living in Hawthorne House is over, Avery and Jameson are in a relationship. Jameson becomes increasingly protective of Avery, which she gets angry about. But they are able to work through things and remain together happily.
Alex reveals Izzie was single, wanted kids and because the cancer nuked her eggs, she could not have biological children but she had their embryos. Flashbacks from the fifth season show Alex and Izzie's scenes revolving around the embryos.
In another shocking plot twist, it was revealed that Izzie gave birth to twins and Alex is the father! Alex's letter provided some context — the rekindling of the old romance had started when Karev reached out to Izzie in an effort to help Meredith when she was in danger of losing her medical license.
Around four years after leaving Seattle, Izzie was single and wanted children. Due to chemo for the cancer, she lost the ability to get pregnant, and she used the frozen embryos from before treatment to try and have kids. It was successful and she gave birth to twins, whom she named Eli and Alexis.
