Nina first thought Hanne was a Heartrender, but it appeared to be that Hanne was a Healer. The two become very close, eventually working together at the end of King of Scars to begin to bring down Jarl Brum. Nina is in love with Hanne and they are engaged to be married.
The relationship between Nina Zenik and Matthias Helvar has been rather complicated throughout Shadow and Bone's two seasons, but Danielle Galligan has told Newsweek she knows how she wants their relationship to be approached in a possible Six of Crows spin-off.
Nina and Hanne's relationship becomes official in Rule of Wolves.
Until King of Scars, most believes Nina Zenik from Six of Crows to be heterosexual. However, in Leigh Bardugo's recent release, she revealed that Nina is actually bisexual! Listen, I love every single character from SoC.
Matthias Helvar was betrayed by Pekka Rollins.
However, in the season finale, Nina betrays her country and gets Matthias arrested by Kerch traders in order to keep him safe from the Ravkan army.
They make plans for their future together, but Matthias is shot and killed by a druskëlle boy. As he dies in her arms, Nina promises to help Fjerda and have mercy on the other druskëlle.
However, the prison isn't just external; there's one inside Matthias' head too. The episode presents us with a flashback of him and Nina sleeping together, presumably at the inn, and he then tells his cellmate that his sins cannot be forgiven.
Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Queer Representation: Of the main characters, two are bisexual and one is gay. There is one major m/m romance and one additional minor queer character.
Nina Zenik is seventeen, and is a powerful Grisha Heartrender and former soldier and spy for the Ravkan Second Army.
Zoya shielded their bodies with her own and took the brunt of the attack, leaving her with eight long scars on her back.
Jesper opens his mouth to take a breath and Wylan leans in and kisses him, then Jesper says "I really hope we don't die." At the end of Crooked Kingdom, Jesper has moved in with Wylan and the two have a romantic relationship. Over the course of the duology, Jesper and Wylan connect and begin to look out for each other.
It also seems that Kaz has been betrayed by Wylan Van Eck, who was captured by his own father just before the auction. However, Kaz has been two or three steps ahead the whole time and he slowly reveals his plot to discredit Jan Van Eck and steal the thirty million kruge that Van Eck owes.
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums, Nina Zenik is a Grisha Heartrender working in Ketterdam's House of the White Rose.
Ivan is a gay character from Shadow and Bone.
But that's the famous moment in the book Crooked Kingdom where Kaz kisses Inej's shoulder. There won't be more intimacy than this in the story told by Leigh Bardugo, and since Kaz and Inej's stories stop after Crooked Kingdom, so far, there is no real kiss between them.
Kaz Brekker
When Kaz is threatened, Inej fears for him and becomes violently protective; the reverse is true as well. Although Inej reciprocates Kaz's romantic feelings toward her, she continues to put her life goals above her relationship with him.
In Six of Crows, there are several interesting (and complicated) romances, and one budding relationship that I totally ship and hope will become something more in the next book. (Yes, I'm talking about you, Jesper and Wylan! Please, tell me they end up together! I so love them!)
While her size is not a central focus of her characterization, Leigh Bardugo makes it clear to the reader that Nina is plus-size and desirable because of it, not in spite of it.
No, Inej and Kaz do not kiss in Six of Crows. For a short time, it looks as if Kaz will confess his true feelings for Inej. He admits that he wants her to remain in Ketterdam during a vulnerable moment. However, Inej recognizes that Kaz will never be able to be truly himself around her.
Sure, this is rooted in some deep-seated personal trauma, per the novels, but another, very valid, reading of this aversion to intimacy is that Kaz Brekker is asexual.
There is no jealousy, no forced love triangle where they fall for the same guy, and again – it's just such a relief that YA novels dare to go without that old trope. That said, there is a fair bit of romance in Six of Crows and I am backing all of it.
Suhani Nothing more than a kiss or two. Crooked Kingdom is the spicier of the two, but no sexual scenes.
Nina Zenik is a seventeen-year-old Grisha Heartrender and former soldier of the Ravkan Second Army — until she was captured by Matthias. She betrayed his trust to protect him from Grisha spies, choosing to stay in Ketterdam in the hope of finding a way to free him from Hellgate.
Inej and Nina's friendship is one of those rare awesome female friendships in YA and it's beautiful. Her friendship with Jesper is also great.
She knew Matthias would be in trouble for being with her, a Grisha, so she claimed he was a slave trader to have him arrested and away from those who might hurt him. She tried to recant her claim when she was sure he'd be safe, but they wouldn't let her.
