'Vampire Diaries' Stars Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley Hated Each Other.
Life on The Vampire Diaries set wasn't always easy. Wesley and Nina Dobrev have shared that they didn't like each other at the beginning. And Somerhalder and Dobrev dated and then went their separate ways while the show was still on the air.
' because everyone thought that we had such good chemistry. I realize now that there's a fine line between love and hate and we despised each other so much that it read as love." Eventually, the two sorted out their differences, with Nina explaining Paul is now one of her best friends.
In a June 2019 episode of the “Directionally Challenged” podcast, Nina revealed that the pair despised each other int the first five months of filming TVD. “Paul and I didn't get along at the beginning of the show — I respected Paul Wesley, I didn't like Paul Wesley,” she explained.
Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Paul said he and Nina basically started out as nemeses and agreed with what Nina said about how they “despised” each other for a long time. He explained, “When we first started shooting The Vampire Diaries, we totally clashed. We didn't [get along]. Creatively, it just wasn't in sync.”
Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev met through their roles as Stefan and Elena on "The Vampire Diaries." Dobrev said that they actually "despised each other" at the start of the series.
Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev), The Vampire Diaries
Katherine Pierce, the diabolical doppelgänger of Elena Gilbert, is the hottest vampire of all time, both onscreen and off.
1: Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore.
Caroline is actually Stronger, but Elena was trained to kill vampires as a human. They both fought when Elena had her humanity off and she almost killed Caroline.
As to the reasoning behind the change in her appearance, fans suggest that Nina wanted to be seen as a more mature star -- so pursued some facial modifications.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, who portrayed Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore, respectively, sparked a romance in 2010 and continued to date for three years. One year after their split, Somerhalder moved on with Nikki Reed, but there were no hard feelings between the exes.
Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are pretty amazing actors... because they did NOT get along on the set of The Vampire Diaries! The duo, who starred as Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore on the beloved CW series, actually "despised" each other in the early days of the show.
So far there have been nine gay characters (Bill Forbes, Joshua Rosza, Frank, Lucas Parker, Aiden, Eddie, The Necromancer, Oscar, and Ben), four lesbian characters (Nora Hildegard, Mary Louise, Maya and Finch), six bisexual characters (Freya Mikaelson, Keelin, Tristan de Martel, Penelope Park, Jade, and Jed Tien) and ...
While Elena and Caroline seemed to have tenuous friendship, it never really felt real. The Vampire Diaries was as much a love story between the friendships developed and made stronger as it was about the romance.
Stefan loved Elena more than anyone else and was entirely devoted to her. They both wanted to pursue a human life, whereas Damon enjoyed being a vampire. Elena reunited with Damon in the series finale, but she would potentially have been a lot happier if she had chosen to be with Stefan instead.
Damon Salvatore
Damon is stronger than Stefan early on thanks to a steady diet of human blood. Damon's greatest power is his moral relativism: he's willing to do the wrong thing for what he feels is the right reason, especially when it comes to Elena and Stefan.
Not only was TVD a great vampire drama, but also a great witchy show to watch. Qetsiyah or Tessa was perhaps the strongest character of all time, with the immortality spell, immortality cure, and the creation of the Other Side to her credit.
Not only did Caroline gain control of her blood lust quickly, but her character development only got better after her transition into a vampire. Of all the vampires in The Vampire Diaries, Caroline Forbes was the best of the bunch.
The CW wanted Ashlee Simpson for the role
Per E! News, the frontrunner and studio choice for the role of Elena Gilbert was initially Ashlee Simpson, pop star of the early 2000s and younger sister of Jessica Simpson.
Well, luckily for the two, they've not only remained friends but have since found love outside of one another. Ian moved on to Nikki Reed, with whom he shares their two children.
