He might not tower over the other Avengers as it might seem in the movies, but aside from Hulk, Thor is actually the tallest of the group. Maybe his height does help fit his God-like appearance.
Bruce Banner (The Hulk)
In human form, Dr. Banner is around 5'9", but when he becomes the Hulk, he shoots up to approximately 8'2", which in a way makes him the tallest original avenger (but only sometimes).
In the Marvel Encyclopedia (first published in 2002), the mighty Thor is listed with his official height at 6 feet and 6 inches. His weight is 640 pounds. His hair is blond and his eyes are blue. His first appearance in comics is listed as Journey into Mystery #83 (1962).
Thor is still the taller brother. Chris Hemsworth is 6'3" and Tom Hiddleston is 6'2" not a big difference but still shorter. In Marvel's What If... series Episode 7 we see Thor who pretty much looks like his live action version, whereas Loki very much does not.

Thanos' height in both the comics and the MCU is explained by his inhuman physiology since in the comics, Thanos is an Eternal / Deviant hybrid, and in the MCU, he belongs to a race of beings called “Titans.” It's quite possible that Thanos is taller in the MCU to appear more threatening.

Taller than Ultron but an inch shorter than the Mad Titan, The Hulk has gone through several changes when it comes to his height. In previous films, his rage-fueled physic can be seen growing in congruence with his anger.
The original comics were known for their uniquely surrealist art, sometimes compared to psychedelic hallucinations. Doctor Strange is portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in the MCU with a height of 6'0" (1.83 m). The comic book height of Doctor Strange is 6'2.5” (1.89 m).
Thus, it's only when the Hulk reaches a sufficient benchmark in his rage that his strength significantly increases. It's also possible, and even likely, the Hulk's mass increases in size in order to accommodate the increased strength.
