When ranked by the value of the diamonds they have extracted, De Beers group is the world's largest diamond producer. A joint venture by De Beers and the Botswanian government, Debswana was founded in 1969 after rough diamond deposits were discovered in Orapa.
The mine is located in Orapa, a town in the Central District of Botswana about 240 km (150 mi) west of the city of Francistown. Orapa ("resting place for lions") is owned by Debswana, a partnership between the De Beers company and the government of Botswana.

The diamond is also called the Mountain of Light diamond, and it's known as one of the largest cut diamonds, weighing a whopping 105.6 carats. Koh-i-Noor is a colorless diamond and features an oval brilliant cut.

De Beers or the birth of a diamond monopoly
This monopoly was the start of their major monopoly over the diamond market. De Beers continued to purchase mines, as well as purchasing diamonds directly from other companies.
In 1888, Cecil John Rhodes and Charles Rudd took over the mines and set up a new company – De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd. Today, De Beers remains the dominant company in the diamond market, owning 70% of the mines in South Africa and producing 40% of the world's rough diamonds.
The Koh-I-Noor (Mountain of Light)
Dated through legend from before the time of Christ, this oval-cut diamond is the most famous of all diamonds. It has been said that whoever owned the Koh-I-Noor ruled the world. It was first reported in 1304 as a diamond owned by the Rajah of Malwa.
Within a decade, Canada was producing sixteen per cent of the world's supply of gem-quality stones by volume, and Eira was known as the Queen of Diamonds.
Cullinan produced stones of various cuts and sizes, the largest of which is named Cullinan I, and named the Great Star of Africa by Edward VII, and at 530.4 carats (106.08 g) it is the largest clear cut diamond in the world. The stone is mounted in the head of the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross.
Painite : Not just the rarest gemstone, but also the rarest mineral on earth, Painite holds the Guinness World Record for it. After its discovery in the year 1951, there existed only 2 specimens of Painite for the next many decades. By the year 2004, there were less than 2 dozens known gemstones.
Ammolite. In 1981, the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) declared ammolite a new organic gem. Occurring in limited deposits in the Rocky Mountains, this gem material is much rarer than diamond.
