De Beers Group is the biggest mining company in the world, possessing 35% of global rough diamond production. Furthermore, Jwaneng is an open-pit mine and in use since 1982. The annual production lies around 12 million carats.

Mansa Musa (Richer than anyone could describe)
The top of our list is none other than Mansa Musa. You know you've made it when no one can describe how rich you are. The King of Timbuktu from the 14th century presided over what was the largest producer of gold in the world, when gold was in high demand.
The richest man in the world, to the surprise of many, existed in medieval times between 1280 and 1337 BC. His name is Mansa Musa and he was emperor of Mali, with his empire occupying a vast territory that spread from Nigeria to the coast of Senegal.
Who was the richest person ever? The richest person ever is thought to have been an emperor with an accumulation of wealth often described as “unimaginable” or “incalculable.” The title goes to 14th-century African emperor Mansa Musa, and his wealth has been estimated to be the modern day equivalent of $400 billion.

The Cullinan Diamond is the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever found, weighing 3,106 carats (621.20 g), discovered at the Premier No. 2 mine in Cullinan, South Africa, on 26 January 1905. It was named after Thomas Cullinan, the owner of the mine.

According to data gathered and analyzed by Learn Bonds, three countries alone control at least 80.6 percent of all the world's diamond reserves globally namely Russia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Botswana. In total, the known global diamond reserves stand at about 1.1 billion carats, the study said.
