Calming himself, Obi-Wan leaped over Maul and used Qui-Gon's lightsaber to sever Maul in two.
The duel. Darth Vader defeats Darth Maul. The two Sith Lords engaged in a lightsaber duel, going through the volcano and onto a bridge situated over a river of lava, which collapsed, though they both survived and continued their battle.
However, Kenobi swiftly blocked Maul's strikes. Anticipating Maul's hilt-strike to the head, the same technique that bested Jinn thirty years earlier, Kenobi bisected Maul's lightsaber in two while simultaneously mortally wounding him with a slashing blow to the torso. Maul dies in Obi-Wan's arms.

Qui-Gon was ultimately defeated by a move that can only be done with a double-bladed lightsaber as Darth Maul used the handle of the weapon, striking Qui-Gon physically on the chin, stunning him for just long enough to deliver the killing blow.
Maul was a Force-sensitive Dathomirian Zabrak male who established himself as a crime lord during the reign of the Galactic Empire. He was once known as Darth Maul when he was the apprentice of Darth Sidious, and therefore, a Dark Lord of the Sith.

But as soon as he managed to separate the two, Maul was able to overwhelm Qui-Gon and strike him down. That should've sealed the fight for Darth Maul, yet, in the end, he was cut in half by Obi-Wan. And while some fans believe his victory was blind luck, there's likely far more going on than that.
In fact, in this same scene, Sidious says he is keeping Maul alive because he has "other uses for you!" If Palpatine thought Maul knew he about his double identity, there's no way he would have let him stay alive.
Emperor Palpatine
His status as a supreme villain comes in large part from his immense power, which at times seems to be almost unlimited. On top of that, Palpatine is one of the best manipulators in the entire galaxy, and Ian McDiarmid's performance in the role only makes him all the more sinister.
So, as Anakin was dying from his wounds on Mustafar, the Emperor siphoned the Living Force from Padmé and brought it to Anakin. Thus, she died as he was reborn as Darth Vader.
