Since the age of six,
William loses both his mother Geneva, who dies during childbirth, and his supposed father the Earl (killed by Jamie), shortly after his birth, from there he ends up in the care of Jamie's friend and close confidant Lord John Gray - who had married Geneva's sister Isobel.
Outlander Season 7 will feature the return of a character that fans haven't seen since season 4 — William Ransom. The young Earl of Ellesmere has been raised by Lord John Grey (David Berry) and doesn't know he's the biological son of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
After some thinking, Claire realizes that Jamie has to be telling the truth. He can't be the father of Malva's child, and it all comes down to who Jamie is fundamentally. Claire explains it in Outlander Season 6.
Per TVLine, the pivotal role of Jamie's adult son has now been cast. Actor Charles Vandervaart will play the adult version of William Ransom, the child that Jamie fathered during season 3. Vandervaart is best known for his role in season 3 of Netflix's Lost in Space.
While Brianna knows who William is, William does not yet know that Jamie is his father and that Brianna is his sister. He doesn't discover the connection until late in book seven, when he finds himself in Jamie's company and finally sees the resemblance between them.
Jamie marries Claire to keep her from falling into the hands of the evil Captain "Black Jack" Randall. They have one child, Faith, who doesn't survive birth; an adopted son named Fergus; and a daughter, Brianna.
When Jemmy holds the stone, it feels incredibly hot. It's so hot, it breaks in his hands. The stone is hot to the touch for Claire, Bree, and Roger, too.
Some think Jamie's spirit (but not his body) traveled to through time to guide Claire to him; others suggest Jamie had a near-death experience after the Battle of Culloden, and that's why his ghost is 25 when he appears to Frank.
For instance, Lord John Grey learns the truth about Claire, Brianna, and Roger... though he has a hard time believing it. And speaking of Roger and Brianna, they get into their own time-travel trouble — Roger with his ancestor Buck and Brianna with Rob Cameron.
Grey falls in love with Jamie, who rejects his advances. Still, Grey cannot dismiss his feelings.
Claire Meets Jamie's Son and Saves Lord John Grey on Outlander - Outlander Season 4 Episode 6.
One of the most shocking moments from the Outlander novels comes in the seventh novel An Echo In The Bone when Claire has sex with Lord John Grey (David Berry).
Jamie and his son William reunite on Outlander when Lord John Grey comes to visit Fraser's Ridge. As shown in the Season 3 episode, "Of Lost Things," William was born after Geneva Dunsany blackmailed Jamie into having sex with her.
They have pretty much adopted her into the family. We also know Fergus was adopted into the family. This was technically made official in the third book/season, but we know in Jamie's heart, Fergus was his son.
The simple answer is no. Claire and Jamie don't have any more children after Brianna. Claire heads through the stones while pregnant with Brianna at the end of the second season/book. She spends 20 years in the 20th century, and she and Frank don't have any children together.
For now, though, it appears both Fergus and Marsali aren't time travellers with actors Lyle and Domboy addressing this in an Instagram live Q&A from earlier this year.
Jamie can't time travel in the world of Outlander
Jamie Fraser doesn't have the time-traveling gene. In the books, we find out that Brianna and Roger's daughter, Mandy, can see people as certain elements, and Jamie is water. Those she sees as water don't have the ability to time travel.
Outlander fans were left devastated after couple Jamie and Claire were forced apart by historical events at the end of season two. Claire went back through the stones and to the 20th century where she was reunited with her first husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies).
Rob Cameron, one of Brianna's coworkers, kidnaps Jem, and it appears that he has taken Jem into the past. Roger and William travel through time to find them, but Rob appears at Brianna's home and orders her to tell Jem to disclose the location of the gold.
In November 1774, Jemmy has lice and Jamie shaves the boy's head, revealing an unusual birthmark on his scalp that Claire says would be genetic. Roger shaves his head as well to show that he has a matching birthmark, confirming Jem's parentage.
By the end of book 6, Brianna and Roger, after the birth of their second child, decide to return to the future, taking Jemmy with them in order to escape the hardships of the 1770s; a storyline that would shake up Brianna and Roger's arc in the Outlander series for the first time since they came to the past in season 4 ...
Just as she begins to worry that Jamie might be capable of lying to her, Jamie quells her fear by revealing to her his indiscretion with Mary MacNab, a woman who worked at Lallybroch, while Claire was back in 1968 with Frank and Brianna. This confession soothes Claire, and the two find themselves realigned once again.
Claire and Jamie care for her and give her goat's milk, keeping her warm as they bring her into Brownsville. Once in Brownsville, they find a nursing mother to feed the child, and Richard Brown makes the executive decision to take her in and raise her as his.
But as fans know, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser's (Caitriona Balfe) love story was put on hold for 20 years. And during those two decades, they didn't know if they would ever see each other again. It was during that time apart that Jamie married another woman — Laoghaire MacKenzie (Nell Hudson).
