Jesus Christ embodies God's glory and fullness. More than that, he is the only perfect man who has ever lived.
In Jewish scripture, certain individuals such as Noah (Genesis 6:9) and Abraham are referred to as perfect because of their obedience to God. In these passages perfect is used as a synonym for complete, and perfect obedience to God is simply complete obedience to God.
Jesus spoke the truth; He lived the truth, and the truth was eternal. History has no record of any other man leading a perfect life or doing everything in logical order. Imperfect Saints Fill the Bible
The Bible nowhere encourages us toward perfectionism. It promises us perfection — imputed perfection now (2 Corinthians 5:21) and future perfection in the age to come (Revelation 21:3–4) — as a free gift of God's grace, so that we will be free from perfectionism.
Hebrews 13:21

Jesus says in Matthew 5:48 that we should be perfect as our Father which is in heaven is perfect. Yet, human perfection is not possible, since we read in Isaiah 64:6 that even our righteousness is as filthy rags; and Paul says in Romans 3:10 that there is 'none righteous, no not one.

Peter was a sinful man, yet he became a part of Christ's inner circle. The gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke list Peter as the very first disciple called on by Jesus, followed closely by Peter's brother Andrew, then James and John.

The yes answer is based on Matthew 5:48 “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (NASB). Jesus was telling us that God is the standard against which everything else is measured. Specifically, we are to love our enemies so "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:45a HCSB).
