Because
Not giving Mirabel a gift was Casita's way to “punish” Abuela, forcing her to reflect on what she had done to her family. At the same time, as Casita also loved the family, it didn't leave Mirabel entirely powerless, and it gave her its own magic, allowing her to communicate with Casita.
To prevent Mirabel from being shunned in the same way he was, Bruno left the family. However, he loved them too much to truly go away, so he stayed hidden in the walls of the house for 10 years, unbeknownst to anyone (except Dolores, who could hear him the whole time and knew he never left).
"Mirabel and [Abuela] are the only two people to be able to communicate with the Casita in the movie. This could show some sort of special relationship with the Casita and in turn, the magic in the house," they add.
Casita was destroyed after an argument between Abuela and Mirabel, in which Abuela blamed Mirabel for all the family's misfortunes because she doesn't have a gift, and along with Casita's destruction, the candle was extinguished, leaving the Madrigals powerless.
This modern Casita is the perfect place to rest and recharge in between visits to the theme parks. We have two full master suites with private bathrooms (one on each floor), two Encanto rooms, and the upstairs loft has a full-size sofa bed.
During the conflict that same day, Pedro sacrificed himself to the Soldiers who were chasing after the escaping villagers, allowing Alma and their children to escape but at the cost of his life.
"Casita isn't just a living magical house but is their actual family member. The candle may be the catalyst of the powers, but Casita is the soul of their Abuelo living on (and Mirabel is clearly his favourite grandchild)," they add.
Encanto 2 has yet to be officially confirmed by Disney, but recent developments at the House of Mouse might have given fans hope that we'll all be talking about Bruno again (if we even stopped). In February 2023, Disney confirmed sequels for Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia.
Abuela Was In the Vision
When Mirabel and Bruno (John Leguizamo) are viewing his vision of her, she begs him to continue, so she can see the end. The vision shows flashes of the future, and eventually reveals an image of Isabel (Diane Guerrero) and Mirabel hugging.
Bruno was banished from the family's compound years ago by his own mother, Abuela Alma, the matriarch of the family, because the magical gift with which he was “blessed” had a clairvoyant component to it. So when Abuela began to fear Bruno's prophecies might take away her control over the family, she made him leave.
Bruno is a nine-year-old German boy and the novel's protagonist.
While Encanto doesn't have a traditional Disney villain, Dolores Madrigal seems the closest to fulfill that role, especially with how she tries to ruin things for her cousin, Isabela.
The reason why Mirabel doesn't get a gift in Encanto is that she already had the brains to take over as the family leader after Abuela Alma. Therefore, the miracle didn't need to give her an additional gift — Mirabel's gift in Encanto is her intellect, which she already received.
The most reasonable explanation for Abuela having her own door (which, is worth noting, glows like any other even though she doesn't have powers) is that the candle and Casita gave it to her because she's the Candle Keeper and “Miracle Guardian”, as was as the leader of the Madrigal family.
Every member is given a unique power or “gift” from Casita, as referred to in the film, once they hit a certain age, except for protagonist Mirabel. One night she sees cracks start to form around Casita and realizes that the magic and her family are breaking apart and that she is the only one who can save them.
The war took place between 1899 and 1902. While the Encanto team was intentionally vague about the context around the violent inciting incident of the story—other aspects of the film such as technology and clothing seem to indicate that it was set around that time.
However, in the film, Mirabel doesn't get a gift, which causes problems in her relationship with Abuela Alma (María Cecilia Botero). Alma is constantly worried about losing the magic and letting down her family, and the village.
After a world premiere November 3, 2021, Encanto was released theatrically on November 24, 2021. After a 30-day run, the film was made available on Disney+ on December 24. If Encanto 2 is officially announced in the next year, fans might expect a release date of at least 2025, due to the demands of production.
Nevertheless, it makes sense that Pedro's sacrifice for his family would empower the main players in Encanto's tale of redeeming familial love. The theory that the enchanted casita is secretly Abuelo Pedro Madrigal may not be perfect but, following Encanto's core moral, neither is anyone else.
Casita Basics
How long has Casita been in business? Since 1981, although the current owner joined the team in 1983.
The Soldiers are the overarching antagonists of Disney's 60th full-length animated feature film Encanto. They were a group of corrupt Colombian soldiers responsible for the death of Pedro Madrigal, the husband of Alma Madrigal and the grandfather of Mirabel Madrigal.
Years before the film's events, Pedro and Alma Madrigal (María Cecilio Botero) fled their village with their triplets as marauders attacked. Pedro tried to confront the marauders to save his people and town, and the attempt cost him his life.
Félix Madrigal is a supporting character in Disney's 2021 film Encanto. He is the husband of Pepa, the father of Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio, the uncle of Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel. Since Félix married into the family, he has no magical gift of his own.
He returned to Totto Land to accompany the Sanji Retrieval Team in their quest to rescue Sanji. During the escape from Whole Cake Island, Pedro sacrificed himself to ensure his team's escape, as he believed the Straw Hats will bring about the Dawn of the World.
