If you can't send or receive a direct message on TikTok, it could be because your content or message has been flagged or reported, or your account is temporarily suspended.
TikTok has quietly expanded its direct messaging settings to give users a choice of who they want to receive messages from. The options are now: everyone, suggested friends, mutual followers, people you've sent messages to or no one.
Restricted Mode on TikTok limits exposure to content that may not be suitable for everyone, for example, because it contains mature or complex themes. Some features will be unavailable under Restricted Mode, such as the Following feed and gifting on LIVE.
TikTok DM privacy settings
To change this setting, go to your profile, tap the three dots in the top right corner, and select "Privacy and safety." Then, select "Who can send you messages" and choose "Friends" or "Off" to restrict DMs to only people you follow or turn off DMs altogether.
Again, accounts on TikTok need to be mutual followers before they can message each other. Whether a DM is necessary for a collab request comes down to your pitch and their preference.
TikTok now allows users to receive direct messages from every other user on the platform, even if they aren't following them. In order to receive direct messages from everyone, users will need to change a setting in the application's Privacy menu.
Whether you use an iPhone or Android device, you can easily send a message to someone on TikTok. TikTok collects all your direct messages in an inbox, which you can find by tapping the Inbox tab at the bottom of the screen. Here you can read, send, and reply to messages.
To confirm your age on TikTok, please contact the app's customer support and request a date of birth update.
If you're over 18, you can disable Restricted Mode. If you entered your birthdate incorrectly, you can contact TikTok and show proof of your age to update your profile. You can create a new TikTok account with an age that's over 18 to see restricted content.
To change your age in TikTok, you'll need to contact customer support by going to Profile > Settings and Privacy > Report a Problem > Account and Profile > Editing Profile > Other > Need More Help. Enter a request to change your date of birth and tap "Submit."
