But what does his response to the mysterious Mirror of Erised tell us about what's to come? Thick woollen socks. That's what Dumbledore tells Harry he sees in the Mirror of Erised during their first ever face-to-face conversation in Philosopher's Stone.
It's just a change of heart. With time people get over a broken heart or at-least stop wishing to get it back. That's what happens here; Dumbledore sees his lover in the mirror as he is still not over him and wish him back. But with time his wishes change and he sees his sister in the original film series.
Why did Dumbledore see socks in the mirror? Dumbledore doesn't see socks in the mirror of Erised, he said that only because he didn't want to talk with Harry about his personal issues. What Dumbledore really saw in the mirror was presumably his family with all it's members alive and happy.
Grindelwald was described as being a brilliant and ambitious individual. He was highly intelligent and his magical skills were comparable to those of Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort. He was considered to be the most powerful Dark wizard of all time until the rise of Voldemort a generation later.
Grindelwald was infatuated with Dumbledore. Both ingenious wizards with somewhat extreme ambitions, the two became inspired to find the Deathly Hallows and lead a revolution that would destroy the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, allowing wizards to rise as benign worldly overlords.
Albus was fascinated by Grindelwald's research on the Deathly Hallows and ideas of wizarding domination, and their friendship soon turned into a romantic relationship, in which Albus fell in love with Grindelwald.
Draco just wanted his father's acceptance. He would most likely see Lucius being proud of him in the Mirror.
Fitting with the secrecy Dumbledore maintained around Harry, author J.K. Rowling later revealed that, at that stage of his life, Dumbledore actually saw his own family, especially his dead sister Ariana.

Unbenknowst to most, Dumbledore was actually unable to confront Grindelwald directly: in their youth, the two wizards had sworn a blood pact, sealed in magic, not to fight each other. The vial that had sealed the pact was kept by Grindelwald for years until it was stolen in 1927 by Newton Scamander.
