Unable to sleep, Claire heads to Colum's library to borrow a book, and ends up eavesdropping on a conversation between Colum and Dougal. She discerns that Dougal has gotten Laoghaire pregnant.
Marsali went on to say how the lack of physical marks suggested Jamie hadn't abused their mother and concluded it was Laoghaire's fear of having children which made her physically distant from him.
About half way through the book, the protagonist, Claire, is violently beaten by her lover/husband, Jamie, as punishment for endangering him and his clan.
Jamie has a son named William Ransom with Geneva Dunsany, who died during William's birth. Jamie also has two stepdaughters, Marsali MacKimmie Fraser and Joan MacKimmie, from his marriage to his second wife, Laoghaire MacKenzie.
“He's about 25,” Gabaldon said. It's an interesting response. If you're up to date on the series, then you know that Jamie is not dead at the age of 25.
After Jamie returns from prison and indentured servitude, Jamie's sister, Jenny, arranges a marriage between Laoghaire and her grieving brother. The marriage, however, is a failure, and Jamie leaves Laoghaire.
Director Brendan Maher told Vulture that while both Menzies and Heughan had stunt doubles for the physically demanding sequence, neither used them much. “We had people for safety, just in case, but the nature of the work is that you want the actors to do as much as they possibly can,” Maher said.

During his time apart from Claire, Jamie slept with several women, including Mary McNab (Emma Campbell-Jones) and Geneva Dunsany (Hannah James). And of course, there was Laoghaire MacKenzie (Nell Hudson) as well who had her sights on Jamie since season one.
Convinced she was hiding something, he put a warrant out for her arrest, which left her stuck with very few options. As a result, Dougal made the decision Claire had to be married off to Jamie to allow her to be free in a political loophole.
And because Laoghaire repented for her actions from season one when she almost got Claire executed for being a witch, Claire made Jamie thank her, accidentally giving Laoghaire encouragement for her crush on Jamie.
In the third outing, Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) tied the knot with Laoghaire MacKenzie (Nell Hudson) during the 20 years while Claire (Caitriona Balfe) was in the future.
William Buccleigh was born in December 1743 to Geillis Duncan, an accused witch and murderer. As she was condemned to die, William was taken to be raised by another family who had recently lost an infant, and they gave him the dead child's name, a common practice at the time.
This one stings.
His older brother, Colum, is the ruling laird, but he would be nothing without Dougal. Colum suffers from a condition now known as Toulouse-Lautrec Syndrome, a degenerative disease that renders his legs immobile at times and fills his days with great physical pain.
Jamie denies having slept with her, but the damage to his and to Claire's reputation is done—and the bond between the Frasers and Malva is severed, until just a few weeks later, when Claire finds Malva murdered in the garden. “It's like the peak of the tragedy, and it's so visceral.
Jamie decides that he can forgive her. He can move on from it. However, he makes it clear that she is to never sleep with another man again.
“I curse you. I curse you with knowledge, Jack Randall. I give you the hour of your death. Jonathan Wolverton Randall, Born Sept 3rd, 1705, dies…” she whispers in his ear, and suddenly he knows that she's telling him the truth.
The sex they have next is passionate, intense, and incredibly erotic. Claire obtains an orgasm, which surprises Jamie, and proves the two have crazy chemistry. (I mean, they go at it again before the episode is through.)
Over the course of the first season, Claire and Jamie fell in love and married while Frank was back in the 20th Century. It quickly became clear Jamie's ghost was trying to find his beloved which is probably why he was watching Claire.
Malva, before her death, tells him that she made them sick. She'd collected parts of the dead Sin Eater and poisoned Claire and Tom. She wanted to get to Jamie, and getting Claire out of the way was the only way to do that.
At its heart, Outlander is just a really long romance story, and all romances need a happy ending. Insofar as wombs are original homes, this installment in the series ends with Jamie and Claire coming home to each other.
