What drove Lily Potter into the arms of James Potter and away from Severus Snape? She likely realized just what James had been willing to do for a friend. Harry Potter's father would have had to do something extreme to draw Lily's attention after the way James first chose to show his interest.
Lily chose James because James proved so unyielding in his loyalty and selflessness to anyone important to him. Snape could never do that while she lived.
Lily admires the way younger students look up to him. She loves the way he looks at her, his stare alone telling her how much he cares, like she has been his world long before either of them knew it. She loves the way he was her world too, he had been for a long time, she just hadn't realized it.
Sirius says James “deflated his head a bit” in seventh year and that's when Lily goes out with him. It's not just to teach Snape a lesson (though that's what he thought I'm sure) it's been two years. Lily saw James had matured, she gave him a chance. She liked what she saw, and the two fell deeply in love and married.
Case study 4: James and Lily Potter
Lily's husband's Patronus was a stag, the male form of her doe. The stag and doe complemented each other rather than matched. Interestingly, James's Animagus form was also a stag, hence his school nickname: Prongs.
Now, as firmly established, Snape was not the greatest fan of Harry, but that didn't mean that he ever stopped loving Lily. Dumbledore was surprised that Snape seemed to care for the boy. With a swish of his wand, Snape conjured up a Patronus – Lily's Patronus, a doe. 'Always,' he said.
They were close friends, she saw in him someone special that she could care about. But she couldn't be with him. So, it seems like it was very unlikely that Lily ever found out Snape loved her.
To be fair, James would (and did) willingly die for Lily too. But Snape loved Lily so much that he was willing to die just to avenge her. He would die just for the memory of her.
A Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Snape is hostile to Harry due to his resemblance to his father James Potter, who bullied Snape during their time together at Hogwarts. As the series progresses, Snape's character becomes more layered and enigmatic.
Lily and James weren't just parents, they weren't just a young married couple fighting against the darkest wizard of all time — they were also, maybe most significantly, the loves of each other's lives.
Later, Snape tries to apologize for calling Lily a Mudblood, but she's not interested; she ends their friendship due to his association with Death Eaters. Seventh Year: James becomes Head Boy and seems nice enough now for Lily to start dating him.
All this implies that James Potter and his friends did have the tendency to bully people for fun or “just because they can”. In fact, James outright tells Lily that he's bullying Severus Snape because of the “fact that he exists, if you know what I mean”.
James and Lily were in the original Order of the Phoenix and therefore knew they were risking their lives in the war against Voldemort. Still, the Dark Lord's whole reason for trying to kill them all was to eliminate the threat posed by a certain prophecy.
Towards the end of The Deathly Hallows, we learn Snape apologised later on. Unsurprisingly, Lily didn't forgive him and severed their friendship permanently.
Her leaving Snape wasn't a sign of her being a bad friend but rather that their interests no longer clashed as he was studying something that Lily despised. They just grew apart over time, and that was no fault of Lily's.
He Called Lily A Mudblood
Even though Snape repeatedly tried to apologize for his mistake afterward, it became clear that it was yet another incident that had done irreparable damage to their friendship.
Dumbledore reveals how thoroughly he loves Harry. Harry is brave, and Dumbledore is proud as any father would be. More than that, Dumbledore succumbs to a parent's weakness; he cares more about Harry's happiness and wellbeing than the wizarding world he is trying to protect.
It probably had at least a little bit to do with her friendship with Harry Potter. Additionally, her brilliance made it harder to favor the Slytherins. No matter the cause, it's clear that Snape loathed that Hermione was so smart and so willing to answer any and all questions during class.
J.K. Rowling apparently confirmed that Lily Potter was pregnant again when Voldemort murdered her | Fandom.
"Lily! After all this time?" he asked and "Always," replied Snape. Snape having the same Patronus, the doe, as Lily symbolized his everlasting love and unwavering devotion towards her. He hadn't stopped loving her after their last altercation, marriage to James Potter, or death.
Harry's Presence Tortures Snape
Snape was in love with Lily and couldn't move on because of his guilt. Through his memories, it's revealed that he was worried about Harry's future when Lily and James died and that he was afraid of seeing Harry when he's old enough to attend Hogwarts.
Voldemort grants Snape's request to spare Lily because Lily's life is not important to him. Snape has done him a solid by reporting on the overheard prophesy, so this is an opportunity for Voldemort to appear magnanimous.
Snape is distraught by Lily's death, and Dumbledore tells him that her son survived – and that his eyes are just like hers. Snape agrees to help Dumbledore protect Harry, even though he's James Potter's son too, on the condition that nobody ever find out.
As Rowling explained in a series of tweets, Snape loved Harry's mother, Lily, and his unrequited affection drove him to resent Harry's father, James — and by extension, Harry himself.
