R2-D2 was in on the scheme to keep the secret away from Luke and Leia. He was devoted to the
Canon characters, such as Anakin Skywalker, whose relationship with R2-D2 is one of the best in the whole series, Rey, Poe Dameron, Hera Snydulla and Kazuda Xiono are fluent in the droid language. And after spending decades with R2 himself, Luke Skywalker is also able to understand him.
C-3PO had his memory wiped at the end of Revenge of the Sith. R2-D2 did not, but why he never told Luke the truth is actually quite simple. That ends up happening when you make the prequels after the originals lol. Bail Organa had Captain Antilles erase C-3PO's mind shortly after the twins were born.
Early in The Empire Strikes Back, however, while Luke pilots his X-Wing through space, the two communicate more easily. Luke appears to use a central panel inside his cockpit, which provides him with an on-screen translation of whatever Star Wars' R2-D2 says.
R2 was on Mustafar when Anakin became Vader. That, perhaps, explains that he doesn't try to reacquire him.
Yoda recognized R2-D2 during The Empire Strikes Back.
Yoda soon agrees to train Luke about the Force and how to be a Jedi. We believe this is the first meeting between all three. But in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, we learn R2D2 and Yoda ran in some of the same social circle. And now, a new book has confirmed that Yoda knew who R2D2 was in “Empire Strikes Back.”
In The Phantom Menace, set 32 years before A New Hope, R2-D2 is portrayed as belonging to the Naboo defense forces, one of three astromech droids deployed for repair duty onboard Queen Padmé Amidala's (Natalie Portman) starship as it attempts to get past the Trade Federation blockade.
R2-D2 was present when Padmé gave birth to Leia and Luke, so he knew Luke was Anakin's son – but what he didn't know was that Anakin became Darth Vader. In addition to that, Anakin's fall was surely a painful event in R2-D2's life, one that he definitely wouldn't like to remember or even talk about.
After the battle, R2-D2 and C-3PO were the sole witnesses to the marriage of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala in Lake Country. After this Padmé gave ownership of R2 to Anakin while she kept 3PO.
With the release of Star Wars Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 11 Shattered we finally know that Rex knew about Vader when he mentioned it to Ahsoka as she found out from Maul.
Padmé was well aware that Anakin had committed dark crimes that would've started his fall to the dark side. He even confessed to her that he had massacred an entire Tusken Raider village to avenge his mother, leaving no one alive.
As such, by the time of Anakin and Padme's marriage, Anakin was the owner of C3PO and Padme the owner of R2D2 (or the state of Naboo).
We also know Grogu doesn't remember who saved him, which explains why the reaction wasn't mutual. R2's past in between trilogies is still a mystery, and The Mandalorian finale revives an old theory: R2 is actually a rebel agent.
Starting with Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Obi-Wan and R2-D2 helped free Naboo from the Trade Federation's invasion. Later, both served in the Clone Wars with R2-D2 assigned to Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. Since Obi-Wan and Anakin often fought together, Obi-Wan was friends with R2-D2 as well.
Of course, the Father almost immediately wiped Anakin's memory, because he couldn't very well achieve balance knowing what he knew of his future. That's very interesting, though. It means that the Father knew that Anakin will become Vader, will destroy the Jedi, will literally annihilate whole worlds….
Darth Vader didn't learn he had a daughter until Return of the Jedi, when he stood before Emperor Palpatine. The Emperor's power probed Luke's mind, attempting to goad him to fall to the dark side, and he discovered Leia's existence. "Sister," the Emperor taunted.
Obi-Wan greets R2-D2 and later recalls “not owning a droid.” Obi-Wan purposely withheld information from Luke in order to keep Luke from straying away. This could offer an explanation as to why he appears to not know who R2-D2 is. Further in Empire Strikes Back, neither Yoda nor Darth Vader recognizes either droid.
Artoo allowed Luke to see a fragment of Leia's message, tricking the youth into removing his restraining bolt. Freed of the bolt, Artoo escaped the farm and delivered his message to Obi-Wan.
But Anakin remained staunchly against this idea for R2-D2, meaning the droid never had to worry about losing the memories of his past. As a result, R2-D2 could learn the value of intelligence, quick thinking and when and where not to speak up.
R2 and C-3PO were best friends. The two of them had been on countless adventures together. Several of these adventures took place during the Clone Wars, in which both droids participated in. While they were usually on good terms, the two often got in small disagreements.
Well Obi-Wan Kenobi does recognize R2-D2. Just didn't want Young Luke Skywalker to know about it. Now It's true it can be argued, but if you remember the prequels, and the Clone Wars, that The Republic owns or owned R2-D2 and other Droids.
Because Bail Organa had them wipe his memory at the end of Revenge Of The Sith and he never came back to Tatooine until A New Hope. Who would win, Darth Maul vs Galen Marek? Galen destroys Maul. I'm just going to be simple with it.
The two droids were dumped back on the streets, their memories wiped of the incident. Unlike R2-D2, Threepio's mind is wiped of all memories after the birth of Luke and Leia. Senator Bail Organa assigns C-3PO to duty aboard an Alderaanian diplomatic cruiser, serving under Captain Antilles.
