“Chin hair results from a combination of genetics and hormones,” says Hadley King, M.D., board-certified dermatologist at New York's SKINNEY Medspa. It's our male hormones (called androgens), as well as our overall hormonal balance, that stimulate growth of chin hair, she explains.
It's caused by excess hormones called androgens. For women, the hair may grow in places where men often have a lot of hair, but women often don't. This includes the upper lip, chin, chest, and back.
“Plucking or tweezing is not the preferred method of hair removal as recommended by dermatologists,” Dr. Lertzman said. “There are other techniques – both at-home and in a dermatologist's office – that are safe and effective when it comes to removing unwanted hair from the face.”
However, repeated ripping of the hair from its follicle via waxing or plucking (which is essentially the same thing, when you think about it) will make hair grow back thicker, darker and coarser… and frequently, more plentiful and faster to re-grow.
The culprit, she says, is usually testosterone; everyone has this hormone in their bodies, but some people produce more of it than others and each person's hair follicles react to varying hormone levels differently.
Shaving can cause skin cuts and may lead to ingrown hairs. Plucking can hurt, especially if a lot of hairs are removed. Using hot wax can burn your skin. Chemicals that dissolve hair often smell bad and can cause allergic skin reactions.
Disadvantages of Tweezing:
Tweezing is not painless. Some individuals feel a sting with every hair that is pulled out of its follicle. Tweezing can also cause scarring, pitting, and ingrown hairs. Lastly, like waxing, tweezing requires some hair growth in order to grasp the hair to remove it.
Constant hair pulling can cause scarring and other damage, including infections, to the skin on your scalp or the specific area where hair is pulled and can permanently affect hair growth.
When does facial hair start growing? Beard hair starts to appear during puberty, under the influence of male hormones. Most adolescent boys first notice facial hair between the ages of 13-16 years.
Few foods might help you to get rid of facial hair: Sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds, garlic, peaches, oats, dried fruits, barley, mung beans, lentils, and rice bran may help increase the estrogen (hormone) levels in the body and reduce unwanted facial hair naturally.
Mix sugar with lemon juice and very little water, stir well to form a granular paste. You can use it cold or you can use it slightly warmed when it forms a sticky paste. Apply an even layer over your unwanted facial hair, massage for a few minutes then let it stay for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.
First off, all women have some amount of chin hair in the form of thin, faint strands that you probably ID as "peach fuzz." But you may also notice random dark, coarse chin hairs from time to time, and these are also totally normal.
“Plucking is possibly one of the worst things a client could do in this case as over time this will stimulate the blood supply to the follicles, resulting in thicker and stronger hairs.”
With plucking and tweezing, hair grows back quickly, but since the hair is plucked out from the root, it grows out comparatively slower than shaving. Plucking can be painful too, especially those who have sensitive skin. Additionally, with plucking facial hair, it is extremely difficult to achieve symmetry.
What About Stubble? "Shaving does not cause extra hair growth or make a person's face hairier, this is actually a myth."
Plucking stops hair growth temporarily (it will never stop hair growth permanently!) by removing the hair shaft. When done correctly, plucking can stop hair growth for up to six weeks, longer than many alternative hair removal methods.
How effective is facial shaving? “Of course, you can shave your face, but it cannot become a habit. Similar to exfoliation, doing it too many times or too roughly can harm the skin,” said Dr Rashmi Shetty, celebrity dermatologist and founder of Ra Skin and Aesthetics Clinic in Mumbai.
According to studies, beards make a man look older by nearly 8 years. interestingly, the longer the beard, the older you look. So, if you want to look older, grow a beard (or a longer one). If you want to look younger, shave (or trim) your facial hair and use Volt Beard Color to help cover your grays.
For more permanent results, laser hair removal is a good option. In fact, Sartor says this is the most effective method for permanently removing chin hair. Laser hair removal uses a laser to reduce or eliminate unwanted body or facial hair.
Some girls have extra hair on their bodies because of genetics — some people have less body hair and others have more, so if your mom or sister also has nipple hair, it may just run in the family. Girls might also have extra hair because their bodies make too much of a hormone called androgen.
Androgen-suppressing medication. Such drugs, including finasteride (Proscar®) and flutamide (Eulexin®), and spironolactone (Aldactone®), can treat mild cases of PCOS facial hair effectively. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists. They reduce androgen production in the ovaries.
