These so-called nocturnal emissions can also happen because of hormone levels and even light stimulation of the genitals. People of all sexes who have gone through puberty can experience wet dreams, though they are most common in the teen years. They don't happen to everyone, but are a perfectly normal occurrence.
Sexual arousal happens during REM sleep: During the REM stage in sleep, the blood flow in the pelvic region gets boosted. This leads to erection in men and vaginal wetting in women.
Hormonal Causes
The body produces an antidiuretic hormone at night called ADH, which slows the kidney's production of urine while you sleep. In people with enuresis, this hormone is not produced in significant enough quantities to slow the production of urine, which often leads to bedwetting.
Things like alcohol, spicy foods, caffeine and smoking can be sweating triggers. Keep your bedroom cool and sleepwear light. Adjust the thermostat, use fans, open windows (if it's cold outside), wear breathable pajamas and use lightweight bedding. Cool yourself down.
Secondary enuresis in older children or teens should be evaluated by a doctor. Bedwetting in this age group could be a sign of a urinary tract infection or other health problems, neurological issues (related to the brain), stress, or other issues.
Boys do not start puberty with a sudden incident, like the beginning of menstrual periods in girls. Having regular nocturnal emissions (wet dreams) marks the beginning of puberty in boys. Wet dreams typically start between ages 13 and 17, with the average at about 14.5 years.
Some guys may feel embarrassed or even guilty about having wet dreams. But they're are a normal part of growing up and you can't stop them from happening. Most guys have wet dreams at some point during puberty, and even sometimes as adults. Wet dreams usually happen less as guys get older, though.
For an older child (9+), you can say something like:
"That activity is something that only adults do with other adults and only with consent. It's not something that kids do or need to really know about right now.
Preadolescence may also be defined as the period from 10 to 13 years. The point at which a child becomes an adolescent is defined by the major onset of puberty. However, in some individuals (particularly females), puberty begins in the preadolescence years.
At 10 years of age, children are developing a better sense of who they are in the world. Many are preparing for the start of middle or junior high school and are getting ready to navigate new social settings.
Kids between 8 and 12 are called “tweens” because they are in between children and teenagers. It's very normal for kids this age to start to move from being very close to parents to wanting to be more independent. But they still need a lot of help from their parents. Kids this age go through big physical changes.
A nightfall, known scientifically as a nocturnal emission, and also informally known as a wet dream, sex dream, or sleep orgasm, is a spontaneous orgasm that involves ejaculation for males and vaginal wetness or an orgasm (or both) for females during sleep.
Bedwetting causes
Most older children who wet the bed are very sound sleepers, so the signals of a full bladder aren't strong enough to wake them. Some children have small bladders or don't produce enough of a hormone (vasopressin) that reduces urine production during sleep.
Teens may have inherited a tendency to wet the bed. Smaller bladders, sleep problems, stress, diet, and other health conditions can also cause the problem.
There are several reasons a teenager may be struggling with staying dry at night: They have a small bladder. They are deep sleepers. They are constipated.
Wet dreams begin during puberty when the body starts making more testosterone, the major male hormone. Most guys have wet dreams at some point during puberty and even sometimes as adults. However, they usually happen less or stop altogether as guys get older and reach the end of puberty.
“If it's sticky and you don't think you peed, you've probably had a wet dream,” she says. When it happens, the child will wake up with a sticky, wet half dollar-sized spot in his underwear, pajamas or on his bedsheets, if he doesn't sleep in underwear.
What is it? A wet dream is a sexually arousing dream that gives a guy an erection and makes him ejaculate during his sleep. Very often boys don't remember the dream. If they don't know what's going on they may think they've wet the bed.
Some studies suggest that moderate ejaculation (2–4 times per week) is associated with a lower prostate cancer risk. However, ejaculating more often doesn't mean your cancer risk drops even more.
No evidence suggests blocking sperm can cause harm or negative side effects. Unejaculated sperm is not harmful to the body and does not build up. The body reabsorbs sperm that does not leave through ejaculation. This has no side effects on sex drive or fertility.
