Water Temperature If the water is not hot enough, the detergent will not dissolve properly, and residue will not be cleaned from dishes during the cycle. To prevent white residue build-up, make sure your dishwasher is receiving hot water. Dishwasher water should be between 120 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
The cause of this problem could be limescale or salt residues. If the residue can easily be wiped off with a finger, it is likely too much salt. If the residue is difficult to remove and comes off with vinegar, it is likely limescale (hard water build-up).
You can do this by adding either vinegar or baking soda to some hot water and soaking or swishing your plastic in the water.
Eliminate hard water residue with these solutions:
Run regular vinegar cycles to help remove mineral build-up inside the dishwasher. Use a rinse aid and citric acid for each wash to clean away hard water deposits from dishes and the dishwasher. Add 1 teaspoon of citric acid to your detergent for each load.
A white, milky film on glassware, dishware and the interior of the dishwasher can be caused by phosphate-free dishwasher detergent. Detergents without phosphates can potentially leave a white film on glassware and other items, even the dishwasher tub itself. This white film is most often observed in hard water areas.

It depends on how hard your water is: Hard water: Your dishwasher needs dishwasher salt to clean as best as possible and prevent damage from limescale buildup. Moderately soft/slightly hard: All-in-one tabs are typically enough. Soft water: It's not necessary to add dishwasher salt.
