A study published this month in Behavioral Ecology shows that in windy conditions—both natural and humanmade—the ants pick smaller and lighter plant pieces. The pieces are also longer, making them less likely to catch the wind and blow the ants off course.
The ants' initial response to the wind is to lower their body and clutch the ground to resist the gust.
Their bodies, wings, and muscles are adapted to control most situations they encounter. The wings on most have origami-style folds that they can use to alter resistance and exposure to the wind.
Unlike some other animals, ants do not fall into a deep slumber in the winter. Rather, they find their way inside or rest several feet deep into the soil where temperatures are more consistent and the elements cannot reach them.
Queens can live for over 10 years and spend most of their lives in their nest. New queens, however, will leave to mate and found a colony of their own. This 'nuptial flight' is why ants fly. Ants mate during flight, so males and young queens both have wings.
Animals, including ants, have specialized sensory neurons that detect and alert them to harmful stimuli, such as temperature, pressure, or chemical changes. These pain-sensing neurons are called nociceptors. They convert stimuli into electrical signals that are relayed to the brain and allow the animal to react.
Ants transport their dead there in order to protect themselves and their queen from contamination. This behavior has to do with the way ants communicate with each other via chemicals.
Both cayenne and black pepper repel ants. Ants hate cayenne pepper. Black pepper will work just as well too. Locate the source of the ant infestation problem, sprinkle some pepper around that area and if possible, create a wall that will stop the ants from accessing your household.
A recent study of ants' sleep cycle found that the average worker ant takes approximately 250 naps each day, with each one lasting just over a minute. That adds up to 4 hours and 48 minutes of sleep per day. The research also found that 80 percent of the ant workforce was awake and active at any one time.
Ants Create Rafts
When a colony of fire ants encounters a flood of rain, they cling together and create a raft on the surface of the water. This allows at least some of them to survive even the most intense floods.

As a defense mechanism, these smelly critters release an odor when they are crushed or smashed.
Lemongrass, citrus, peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, citronella, catnip, and lavender oils all possess properties that repel bugs. The oils can be used individually or combined to make a simple anti-bug potion.

If you know where ants are getting in, you can line these entryways with things that ants hate. Salt, baby powder, lemon juice, chalk, vinegar, bay leaves, cinnamon, or peppermint oil are a few items that you have around your home that will stop ants from coming inside.
Two of the best ways to eliminate ants are Borax and diatomaceous earth. Essential oils, including peppermint and clove, are a natural way to repel and kill ants. Food and moisture attract ants, so keep your home clean and dry to get rid of ants permanently.

Moth Butterfly
The female moth butterfly will lay its eggs inside the ant colony or nest, and once the larvae hatch, they will feast on the ants. Unfortunately for the ants, moth butterfly eggs are oval and have a hard exterior, making them too heavy and impenetrable for the soldier ants.
For the same reason, ants won't cross a chalk line. Their pheromone trail is being temporarily disrupted, causing them to search in a different direction to find the trail again.

Turns out ants don't really mourn or grieve or even have graveyards for the same reasons we as humans do. It all comes down to chemicals and smells and pheromones.
Despite the relative smallness of an ant's brain in comparison to humans, scientists consider the ant to have the largest brain of all insects. Regardless of how ant brains are rated, they can communicate, avoid and fight enemies, search for food, show courtship signals, and use complex navigation over long distances.
