The most common reason that Botox does not work is that not enough was given. Botox is not a one size fits all treatment and the same dosage does not work for everyone. Some individuals may need additional Botox to reach an effective level of muscle weakness. The Botox may also be old, overdiluted, or fake.
One of the most common reasons that people do not see full results after their Botox treatment is because the dose used was too low. Although many people have fears of Botox treatments, the recommended doses are provided to give natural and full results.
How long does Botox take to work on 11 lines? On average, it can take Botox 4-7 days to show results on 11 lines as the neurotoxin gets into the right places to block signals from the nerves to the muscles. To get faster results, you may do facial exercises for the neurotoxin to travel faster.
The appearance of vertical lines after Botox is due to its unique utilization and weaving. The corrugator muscle is responsible for creating the inter-brow number “11” creases. Once these muscles are crippled, the brain recruits the orbicularis oculi to produce the same expression.
If the injections are asymmetrical, you can correct it by adding more Botox where needed to even things out. For instance, if one side of the face is relaxed and the other isn't, you can add more Botox to the “stronger” side to relax the muscle and even it out.

So what could be the reasons behind Botox not working on forehead wrinkles? Some of the most common ones involve not getting enough Botox units for your skin issue, Botox not being injected correctly, or it could also be that some wrinkles are at a certain depth and could only be corrected so much.
Results are not usually visible the same or the next day. It takes time for the BOTOX® injections to kick in because the BOTOX® binds at a connection point between muscles and nerves called the motor endplate. Injections are absorbed by the nerve cells first and take time to work into the muscles.
The best way to treat this type of wrinkle is to stop the muscle contractions that caused the problem, and that's why Botox® and Dysport® are great treatments. Both Botox® and Dysport® are called neuromodulators. Dr. King Kim injects these neuromodulators into the forehead muscles that form the 11 lines.
While many patients notice fewer wrinkles in as little as 48 hours, it is normal to take up to 10 days for full effects to realize. In other words, you may need to be patient. If it has been more than 2 weeks and you are still not seeing the results you expect, consult with your provider.
In general, most people should have Botox injections once every four months is usually an ideal frequency for this treatment. But because everybody has a different body, you may need your injections more or less frequently.
If you're interested in treating the horizontal lines across your forehead, up to 20 units of Botox may be injected. For the glabellar, or “11” lines between the eyes, another 20 units may be injected, meaning for your entire forehead, up to 40 units of Botox (or Dysport, or Xeomin) may be injected.
These exaggerations of wrinkles may be caused by hyperactivity and overcompensation of untreated muscles. With the increasing availability of diverse botulinum toxin for cosmetic purposes, physicians and patients should be aware of this temporary change after therapeutic injections.
While Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and, most recently, Jeaveau, are the only FDA-approved neuromodulators for the "11" lines, Botox is the only one that's FDA-approved for between the brows, on the forehead, and around crow's feet (if that's also a concern for you).
Note that the BOTOX® vial will appear to be empty prior to reconstitution because it contains a small amount of vacuum-dried BOTOX® that looks like clear crystals.
If Botox is not working for your deep wrinkles and glabellar lines, your doctor may redo your treatment plan and suggest that you get dermal fillers. This is recommended for patients whose wrinkles and skin concerns are caused by facial volume and collagen loss.
In general, you should begin to see results between 24 and 72 hours, but some patients may not see full results for five days or more.
Your Skin Might Look the Same (At First)
Don't worry – that's totally normal. The first time botox is injected, it takes time to act. In fact, it's possible that it may take 2-8 days to start seeing a difference. But two weeks after your appointment, you'll see the full effects of your Botox treatment.
Botox freezes your muscles by stopping the release of acetylcholine. It takes awhile for your body to “use up” the acetylcholine that's already circulating. After that, the magic of Botox becomes clear! Men with thicker skin and stronger muscles may take a few more days to see the first results.
