Here's the deal: Stubble after waxing has to do with the stages of hair growth. Why do hair growth cycles matter? They help explain the reason you might not be as smooth as you'd like following your first, second and even third wax.
Moisturize, moisturize…and moisturize some more. Sustain soft skin between waxing appointments by slapping on some much-important lotion. While you're at it, exfoliate once or twice a week (provided the area is free of redness). Shedding dead surface cells help keep skin, once again, silky-smooth.
Some clients are smooth as a baby's bottom after their first experience. However, it is common that after the first 2 or 3 waxings you may feel a wee bit of stubble. NO shaving, tweezing or waxing between visits as this will cause the hair growth to be in different cycles.
While ingrown hairs are a milder side effect, infections like cellulitis can have life-threatening results when absorbed into the bloodstream. If you experience fever, rapid heartbeat, or purple patches on your skin after a wax, you should visit your doctor immediately.
After a client's first waxing, the results can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on the individual's hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week.
Due to this difference in hair growth cycles, waxing hair when it's too short will make some of the hairs grow back within a couple of days (and in an uneven, prickly wax job), and others not for a week or two. This can turn into a never-ending cycle of mixed growth patterns, ingrown hairs, and breakouts.
If you experience stubble in a few days after your appointment it is most likely hairs that were not waxed, but tiny hairs that were under the surface coming through. Generally, clients start to see minor outgrowth at about two weeks.
It is common to develop folliculitis after hair removal, like waxing, which looks like small red bumps or pimples around hair follicles. Folliculitis occurs when hair follicles are damaged and infected by bacteria.
A Brazilian wax goes from the front all the way to the back with an added butt strip. It's perfect for a completely nude look or you can leave a neat triangle, strip, or square on the front—totally your choice.
I am seeing more and more that after a first wax, shaved hair will still appear days after the wax. This is typically because the client didn't wait long enough for ALL of the hair to grow out. You will, however, notice that after a few Brazilian Waxes your hair will start to grow in much slower and finer.
Regularly Moisturize
Moisturizing will be an important part of your routine after waxing. Not only does it keep your skin feeling smooth, but it also prevents ingrown hairs, like all the other aftercare steps. Try using aloe vera gel. This will both soothe your skin and reduce any irritation.
Hairs can stop showing up after 8 months of treatment in areas where it grows naturally finer, as well as with people with fine hair. It's just as common, however, for people to go through years of wax sessions before the hair stops growing for good.
Moisturizing also keeps the surface of the skin soft and supple also allowing the hair to grow back through easily. No hair will be growing back for around 2 weeks after your Brazilian wax so need to rush home to start exfoliating.
CONTINUED HOME CARE FOLLOWING WAXING SERVICE:
24-48 hours after you service, moisturize you skin daily with a light oil (i.e olive oil, coconut oil, or sunflower oil). **We also off an Anti-Ingrown Lotion in store which helps to prevent in-grown hair.
It's not recommended, as the area can be tender and you will want to avoid any additional irritation for a bit. If you are an avid runner and just beginning to wax, you can apply a thin layer of Vaseline to minimize irritation.
A Brazilian wax leaves a small strip of hair (triangle-, square-, rectangle-, or oval-shaped) at the front of the pubic area while removing all surrounding hair, including the hair on your backside. Your next question may be, how does this differ from a basic bikini wax or a French bikini wax?
Some feel slight pain, some feel none. But the pain will never be completely unbearable and the discomfort is it's worth it and that it gets better with each session. If you're feeling uneasy, just speak with your wax pro before your appointment and she will provide you with a complete education on the process.
We recommend avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine the day of your appointment. These substances can also increase your skin's sensitivity to the wax. If you're looking to go in for an appointment before a special occasion, we recommend booking your appointment 2 to 4 days prior to the event.
Pimples after waxing or after-wax bumps are quite common and usually go away after 24 hours.
To prevent bumps and ingrowns, try applying a cold pack to the waxed area immediately following your service, which will close the pores and block bacteria from entering.
This common type many times can be associated with itchy, white pus bumps after Brazilian wax. It occurs when hair follicles become infected with bacteria. Staph can be a big culprit in bacterial folliculitis. Staph lives on all of us.
It's not unheard of for clients to see some hair a few days after their wax appointment. This happens when people haven't settled into a wax regime, as it takes a few sessions to get an even regrowth cycle for all the hairs in a particular part of the body.
It might be tempting to give up on a waxing routine and pick up a razor instead for instant gratification. This is totally fine—you can shave after a wax.
Bikini area
"For a bikini wax, those who frequent the beach benefit from waxing their bikini line every two weeks. But for a full bikini or Brazilian bikini service, you're recommended to come in every three to four weeks. This allows the proper amount of time for regrowth," Coba says.
