Your Netflix account is in use on too many devices. It means the maximum number of devices allowed to watch at the same time using your Netflix account has been reached. Your Netflix plan determines how many devices are allowed to watch at the same time using your account.
Your membership plan determines the number of screens you can watch at the same time, but it does not restrict the number of devices you can associate with your account. If you want to watch on a new or different device, sign in to Netflix on that device.
Netflix allows you to watch on multiple devices at once, which is convenient for family sharing. Depending on the kind of Netflix plan you have, you can stream video on 1 to 4 devices at once. You can also create up to 5 Netflix profiles, so everyone can have their own recommendations.
Restart your device
Unplug your device from power. Press the power button on the device once and wait 1 minute, or leave it unplugged for 3 minutes instead. Plug your device back in. Turn your device on and try Netflix again.
With a Standard subscription, you can watch Netflix on two screens at the same time. Those with a Premium plan are able to watch Netflix on four screens at once.
Extra members differ from regular account holders in these ways: Extra members can watch Netflix on any device, but only on 1 device at a time. Extra members can also download titles, but only on 1 phone or tablet at a time. Extra members can only have 1 profile and cannot create additional profiles.
Pay for Premium and there can be four devices of any kind watching Netflix at the exact same time. However, those users and devices cannot be permanently in another household.
Netflix says an account can only be used by members of one physical household, sharing one internet connection. Additional members logging from elsewhere can be added for $7.99 a month. The restrictions appear to only apply to televisions and not mobile devices for now.
What are the new rules? Netflix will only let people share an account if they live in the same household — or pay an extra fee. It'll ask people using someone else's account to get a new account of their own or stay on as a paid "extra member".
How does Netflix know that you're sharing someone else's password? Netflix says it uses a combination of IP addresses, device IDs, and “account activity from devices signed into the Netflix account” to determine if an account is being used in the primary account holder's household.
It indicates that you have exceeded the maximum number of devices that can store downloaded titles at the same time. You can use 1, 2, or 4 devices to download titles, depending on your plan. To download to a new device, you can either remove downloaded titles from an existing device or upgrade your streaming plan.
Set or update your Netflix Household
Select Get Help > Manage Netflix Household. Select Confirm Netflix Household or Update My Netflix Household. Select Send Email or Send Text. A verification link will be sent to the account email address or phone number.
Go to your Manage Profiles page. Select Add Profile. In the Netflix mobile app for Android or iOS, tap the profile icon or More , then select Manage Profiles. Select Add Profile.
The account owner will need to purchase an extra member slot, then invite an extra member to use the extra member slot. The extra member must be activated in the same country where the account owner created their account. Extra members cannot be added to Netflix-included packages or third-party billed accounts.
Netflix is officially ending password sharing—but these streaming services still allow it. Netflix once tweeted that “love is sharing a password." But evidently, it's breaking up with us.
After nearly a year of warnings and testing, Netflix has finally launched its password-sharing crackdown in the United States. Anyone sharing their Netflix account log-in with family members or friends who don't live at the same address will be asked to pay an extra $7.99 a month for each additional person.
Solo accounts are identical to Shared Accounts in every way other than the number of users in the account. In a Solo Account there is only one user. This 1-to-1 mapping of account and user means that information and settings that might otherwise have applied to multiple accounts instead only apply to one.
Best streaming service overall
There's a reason why Netflix has become shorthand for streaming in general. The former movie rental service evolved into the top-tier streaming app that's a must-have in 2023.
Netflix keeps track of each account's last viewed episode or movie and the date and time when someone watched it. If you see something on the list you don't recognize, there's a good chance someone else is using your account.
Netflix uses data like IP addresses to determine where someone is located. Subscribers with the two highest-tier service plans, Standard and Premium, will also be able to add up to two extra members outside their household for an additional monthly fee.
If you have multiple WiFi connections at your home or WiFi networks with different external IP addresses, you will need to use the one that you use the most to set a Netflix Household on your TV. Anyone who doesn't use the same WiFi network as your primary device is will not be a part of your household.
