The “No Signal Received” outage happens when your Starlink isn't communicating with any satellites. This issue is mostly caused on the Starlink network side, and doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong with your setup or equipment. Weather and obstructions can cause these issues, though.
Reset the Starlink router and connect to the default SSID by skipping the custom SSID option. The method of resetting the router depends on the generation of your router. For Gen 1 router, push and hold the button under the router until the light on the router turns blue. Release it and the router will be reset.
It can take anywhere from 1-5 minutes for Starlink to find and make the initial connections to the satellites.
Power cycle Starlink (unplug the router from power and then plug it back in) 3 times in a row. The router will take a few minutes to reboot and will interrupt your service until you set it up again. You can expect the light on the bottom of the router to be illuminated when complete.
Network issues caused by faulty and loose connections will have the Starlink app reading Starlink Disconnected, as there is no signal transfer between the router and the dish. Faulty cable connections or damaged cables are common problems facing the Starlink dish side.
How to check for obstructions. Starlink makes it easy to check for potential obstructions, even if you aren't a customer yet. If you haven't selected a location for your dish, open the Starlink app on your phone, and use the obstruction tool. The obstruction tool uses your phone's camera to check for potential issues.
Power cycle the Starlink router
The router is also the power supply for the dish. Unplugging the AC power cord will turn off the router and the dish. When you plug it back in, Starlink will restart. It takes up to 15 minutes for the Starlink to come back online after plugging the router back in.
Lights On Starlink Router
Power: A steady light indicates that your router is turned on and operational. Internet connection: A flashing light indicates that your router is connected to the internet. Wireless: A steady light indicates that your wireless connection is operational.
Look for a Wi-Fi network called STINKY. This is a PSA that if you factory reset your Starlink router or your power blips 3x times in row, which can unintentionally reset the router, you will probably be looking for a default Wi-FI called STINKY now.
Ideally, the router should be placed in an open area with as few obstructions as possible, such as walls or furniture. Additionally, the router should be placed away from electronics, such as TVs and microwaves, that may interfere with the signal.
How many devices can Starlink handle at one time? As standard, Starlink can support up to 200 devices but with ClubWiFi's network technology this can be considerably increased to up to 8000 devices securely on a public network.
This indicates the dish is looking for satellites to connect to. For fixed-location services (i.e. without mobility), check that you are located at the service address on your account. If the dish continues to be stuck on "searching", please contact us at the Vocus Support Centre.
Starlink has two features that make stopping and restarting the service possible. The first is that there is no contract. Canceling your subscription is easy to do and comes with no fees. And restarting will allow you to just pick up where you left off.
Does Starlink Work without Cell Service? One of the biggest questions that has been raised is whether Starlink provides internet service without cell service. The answer is yes! Starlink does not rely on ground-based infrastructure, so it will work even in remote areas where there is no cell coverage.
Starlink simply can't launch satellites fast enough to handle the amount of people that want Starlink. In the peak internet usage hours of the day, between 5pm-10pm, you may notice your speeds slow way down. This is caused by too many Starlink customers in your area trying to connect at the same time.
The Starlink dish uses a phased array antenna. It can track satellites flying overhead without having to physically move. This also means that small movements, such as those caused by wind, will not interrupt the signal.
Starlink was designed to withstand rugged weather conditions, although it should be mentioned that a cloudy day may not necessarily affect Starlink, storm clouds could potentially, as they often create heavy rain, which may cause some signal interruptions.
Installing the Starlink router inside is preferred, but it can be placed outside as long as the environment stays within the specifications given by Starlink. I recommend purchasing a weatherproof enclosure to house the Starlink router.
The Red light means you've lost connection, you have no internet!
While the best way to extend your WiFi is to get an aftermarket mesh system for Starlink, but, it comes at a premium price. And if you want a cheaper alternative, a WiFi extender is a reliable option.
Ideally, you should reboot them at least once a month to clear out the memory and refresh your connections. But don't confuse the term “reboot” with “reset”—they're not the same. A “reboot” simply restarts your wireless router, while a “reset” restores your router to its default factory settings.
The Starlink app is available on both Android and iOS devices. The app is a critical part of how you manage your Starlink internet. It's helpful for the initial setup. You'll also use the app to configure various settings, and troubleshoot any issues after you get your Starlink up and running.
